I received my CyberTruck in Fort Lauderdale just 4 days ago #1949. I had been enjoying driving it around town with no issues. Following dinner out last night, I proceeded to back out of a parking space when all the bells and whistles went off. I couldn’t drive the CyberTruck more than 5mph and the error messages just kept coming.

Ultimately, I had to contact Tesla Roadside to try to trouble shoot the issue. The error messages said I should exit the vehicle, close the door, and re-enter the vehicle. I also restarted the vehicle 3 times. As a previous Model 3 & Model Y owner, I have become very familiar with the Tesla errors and fixes, but this one was unique. The only issue I had previously encountered with the CyberTruck prior to this event, was that it would not charge at my home charger. My previous Tesla’s and Rivian R1T have not had an issue, but the CyberTruck did.

Unfortunately, the CyberTruck had to be towed to the Tesla Service Center. Error messages on the screen include:

The Tesla service center has posted “Replace Door Check Strap Joint Bolts” and that the CyberTruck will be available for pickup in 1 weeks time.

it’s a total bummer paying over $100K cash and only enjoying it 4 days before having to return it to Tesla. I had work plans to do do some hauling, but this throws a wrench into the work.

Yeah thats a real bummer, but sadly you are not alone.

There's a few threads here about the critical steering error. Would be great if you can post what the repair entailed, and maybe even snag the mechanics report?

There seems to be a quite a few completely different fixes so far, so it would be good to keep track of them all.

Door check strap is the thing that stops your door from swinging open too far, and helps it hold partial open position. I don't think that's related to your issue at all.

I wonder if these are linked to a certain harness or 3rd party home charger

Sadly the charger is in the car. So you cannot blame a third party charger.

So I spoke to the service tech yesterday, they just entered a generic ticket for it until the the service tech who specializes in Cyber Trucks has a look at it. The strap isn’t even related or the issue, it’s just a default.

Yeah so I spoke to one of the service techs and they said they’ve only received 2 service inquiries about CyberTrucks. The first was in regards to a scratch on the steel body. The second was a customer that was having the windshield tinted, and the 3rd party tinting company shattered the windshield.

So my particular issue will be the service center’s first technical issue and as I’m told, there’s only 1 service tech who has knowledge or experience with the CyberTruck, which doesn’t fill me with much confidence.

I did some research on my own and this is what I’ve found:

Low Voltage System is a term used to describe the electrical system used in Tesla vehicles.

In this system, the car's high-voltage battery (usually between 350V and 400V) uses a high-voltage DC to low-voltage DC converter to power the low-voltage system. This equipment called DC/DC converter is inside the PCS (Power Conversion System).

The Low Voltage System provides power to the car's electronic systems such as the electronic modules, computers, lights, touch screen, driver assistance systems and other components of the car.

In Tesla, and in particular in recent models, the classic fuses have been eliminated, being replaced by electronic components that are capable of cutting off the low-voltage current supply to the different circuits in the event of an overload.

These electronic fuses are named by TESLA as E-fuses.

The electronic fuses are found in the modules that manage the power supplies for the different components of the electrical system. For example, the front vehicle controller named VCFRONT.

It is located at the front of the vehicle, under the hood, directly behind the 12V battery.

This VCFRONT controller is powered by 12V battery and PCS (Power Conversion System), depending on the vehicle status. The VCFRONT front controller provides power to the entire low voltage system and manages everything under the hood and distributes power to other devices through a series of E-Fuses groupings.

In the new TESLA MS, MX, M3 and MY vehicles, the low voltage battery has been replaced by a Lithium Ion type battery, with electronics inside.

If the high voltage main battery drops its state of charge below 10 percent (ie. a SOC less than 10%) the system will deactivate the main contactors. With the main contactors open, the DC-DC converter will not work and the low voltage battery will discharge.

Once this situation is reached, the system cannot be reset and the vehicle cannot be charged under normal conditions, making driving impossible. This condition can occur when the vehicle is parked without being charged for several days or is being transported and does not have enough charge during those days of inactivity.

The services available for the Low Voltage System are:

AGM and Ion Litho low voltage battery change.
Repair and charge of the low voltage Lithium Ion battery.
Troubleshooting with DC DC converter.
Low voltage electrical troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting with low voltage control modules ( VCFRONT - VCRIGHT - VCLEFT )

Odds are they will likely have to replace the DC Converter or possibly the low voltage battery. The CyberTruck had been sitting at the service center for at least 2 weeks, add that it was transported, etc. the low voltage battery may not have been able to charge sufficiently. The vehicle’s battery was down to 29% and it wasn’t charging at home. I was headed to a supercharging station when this occurred.

I’ve had this issue twice now. First time, Tesla had the car for a week and assured me they found the problem and replaced the faulting component. Second time, still awaiting a tow…

Seems like this issue (or series of potentially related issues) is affecting many folks. Nevertheless, service doesn’t seem to know or have a lead on the fix..

I’m sure that “drive it and hope it doesn’t break down again” is not going to be final answer. Right?

Did they elaborate on this error? My truck just threw this today, but after I got in and out 2 times it finally cleared.

Try to find your error message history in service mode. See if there's anything other than that error.

As a rule, tesla does not like to elaborate on anything. Especially with cybertruck, they try to tell you as little as they can about whatever problems you have and they fix.
