Wife or Cybertruck?. I pick the Cybertruck. That was easy. Let me know if you have any other life questions. FYI, You will also be the coolest Mr. Mom when you shuttle the kids around. ;)
Facts. Dropped my son off at school this morning (7th grade) in the CT. The kids at school went nuts. :ROFLMAO:

Being financially prudent makes sense. However, it often seems that we get so used to the “Accumulation Phase” of our financial lives that we have a hard time letting go and transitioning to using what we’ve worked so long for. I know many folks that accumulated lots of financial resources but never got around to spending it to improve their own lives before they passed on. Highly recommend a book “Die with zero” for an interesting perspective.

Thank you. I will add "Die with Zero" to my reading list to get an additional perspective.

My neighbor got a car recently from a couple he knew who was going through a divorce. He did not even want the car but the offer was too good to pass up. Anyway, if you got the CT now, would you not be forced to sell it to split the cost (or profit) if you (unfortunately) went through a divorce.

Not sure how the finance is split between you and your wife but I would suggest speaking with your attorney b/c you may lose the wife and the CT.

Never been through a divorce, and others I know who have gone through a divorce, did not exactly share all the details on assets.

It is a split of both assets and debts. CT be a debt. Everyone s split is different but they are somewhat balanced by the courts or by settlement.

At least half of the CT would be a debt. If I manage to pay it off quicker it will become an asset to split

I appreciate all the insights outvoted so far

can anyone clarify the answers to this questions:

  • If I commit to the AWD Foundation Series now, when must I finalize financing by?
  • Will Tesla allow me to switch to the regular AWD later without losing my reservation spot, even if it means forfeiting the deposit?

Divorce is a rat hole, that your existing wealth will disappear into. Forget CT, your family home, all the other toys. your kids expensive educations.. Wife's Lawyers with force an even distribution and liquidation of assets....and likely her alimony... At best your CT will become a financial albatross. Fund your marriage counselor, not Tesloid hubris. Teslas have been around only 2 decades... CTs are still experimental!!! They're never going to be the only car you must have to work or play.

Hello, Cybertruck enthusiasts

I've been part of this amazing community for a while, soaking up the wisdom and camaraderie you all generously share. Your guidance has been a beacon through my journey of anticipation and patience for the Cybertruck, a symbol of innovation and personal aspiration for me.

I'm reaching out today for your insights on a dilemma that's weighing heavily on me. Six months ago, I couldn't imagine seeking advice ?, but I've come to value this community's spirit of support and kindness. ?

The 4years journey to the Cybertruck's launch has been my solace and motivation, mirroring my hopes for a brighter future amidst personal challenges. My reservation number is 11292xxxx, and recently, I've been presented with two options:

1. Opt for the AWD Foundation Series at $99,000 today, potentially receiving it by the end of 2024.

2. Wait for the regular AWD model at $80,000, ( my best guess the option will likely become available by fall of 2024), with delivery by the end of 2025, allowing me to save more money and use more money to personalize truck later.

Initially, I leaned towards the second option for its financial prudence and soundness. However, life threw me a curveball I hadn't anticipated. My marriage has been struggling, and despite my best efforts, it seems we're at an impasse. This turmoil threatens the financial stability required for buying the Cybertruck, a dream that's been a beacon of hope for me. There is a risk that either my wife initiates a divorce or that I may have to trigger the divorce myself if the situation gets totally out of control or my kids' wellbeing is impacted in a bad way.

Given these circumstances, I'm contemplating securing the Cybertruck sooner through the first option, despite the financial stretch it represents. This decision feels like a crucial step to preserve a piece of my future dreams amid the storm.

I'd love to hear your thoughts:
  • How would you navigate this choice?
  • If I commit to the AWD Foundation Series now, when must I finalize financing?
  • Is it possible to switch to the regular AWD later without losing my reservation spot, even if it means forfeiting the deposit?
  • Any advice on proceeding with my Cybertruck dream if a divorce is imminent?

Your wisdom and support mean the world to me during this crossroads. Thank you for lending an ear and sharing your insights.
Well — speaking from experience after two divorces (!): In 2016 when my second divorce was final I purchased a Tesla Model S that included unlimited supercharging for life. It was a gift to myself for the stress I went through, and it was a symbol representing my taking a step forward after a bad experience. I still have the car and it still gives me a thrill, so it has been the gift to myself that keeps on giving (plus I recently transferred the free supercharging to a new Model S, so it’ll keep on giving many more years).

Be prudent with money, I say, but be good to yourself. The CT could well be that symbol of you being true to yourself. Alternatively, you wait through the storm and then start moving forward once again. Think it through.

Yes, I’m often thing about the CT as the “ step forward”

Yet I’m not sure I will quality for financing 50% or more of the truck cost after the divorce .

Paying extra for Foundation Series includes FSD. I drive my Tesla Model Y in FSD mode most of the time. Make no sense to drive by myself if the car drives better than me. I received my CyberTruck three weeks ago. It's amazing experience driving CT. But I cannot drive in FSD mode because it has not been released yet for CT. But still fun driving in autopilot mode. Now for financing: You can pre-qualified and wait till last minute to upload information in Tesla website for payment. You have time for it. Waiting game may save you five thousand dollars but imagine how much you pay extra for that gasoline or diesel. If you can afford go for it. And just imagine that the bidirectional charging in the back of CT can power your house for a week at emergency. That itself is very powerful option. Relationships: Happy wife is happy life. Cheers!!!

I think @CyberGus summarized it really well. If you ask any good Divorce attorney, you will get a solid answer to not make any huge financial purchase just before or during the Divorce proceedings. Courts don’t like it. Everything depends on how much you and the other party will fight with every tooth and nail to have an equitable division. Divorce might start amicable but someone during the proceedings might flip and start fighting for the assets. My honest advice would be to not add too many variables to the equation. Your soon to be ex might not care about having full custody but nobody will say no to free money. You will never know what her reaction will be once the proceedings start and all numbers are no the table. She might get really mad about paying the debts and start asking for 50-50 or worst case more custody and alimony. That’s the thing about Divorce proceedings. People have a completely different reaction when they don’t need you anymore - it might be good or bad, but you can’t predict. As much as you want to feel better during this financial and emotional rollercoaster ride, just wait it out on buying CT. It looks like you have very good self resilience. Once everything is over, you might be in a much blissful state to fulfill your life dreams. Take good care of yourself.

With respect to material possessions, life is long. You’ve waited over 4-years, you can wait another year or two until the dust settles. There’s ALWAYS new toys, and the CT will get cheaper, and flaws fixed.

With respect to family, life is short. Regardless of the circumstances, you are a critical role model for your children. Your priorities and choices will create the foundation for your children’s choices.

My advice is that when you’re making your decision about the CT, the most important factor should be how your choice impacts your children the long run. Having a CT sooner might make you happy. Having wise children will pay off in spades over the long run.
