I like the “new” sound. Of course, me being a fireman, I would. And since it’s the only one I ever had…..

Same, I have no horn now  my Cybertruck was asleep in the garage, no WiFi when I did the upgrade and it did come back UPDATE SUCCESSFUL, see photo. I restarted, still nothing. Assured I was on WiFi, tried the updated again… nothing. Restarted again, nothing. Toybox horn sounds are fine.I think Tesla has to reset all of us who have the issue. I have a service appointment for Wednesday now… hoping we can figure this out before then.

For those who are gettng no horn or killing the horn completely, be sure your CyberTruck is awake and connected to your WiFi before you install.
I made sure and no improvement. I have no horn whatsoever, so driving is more risky so will switch back to my Model YP when I get back from my trip. Obviously Tesla did not fully test the horn update for all scenarios. Has anyone recovered from no horn afterwards to anything usable afterwards?

For those wondering, this is initiated from a message in the app. Then launches a web page that after some delay says update successful” (hopefully).

Update: the url it goes to is https://www.tesla.com/vehicle-update/upgrades?vin=[inswrt vin]&optionCode=%24CTH1&rn=[insert reservation number]. You may get it to work without the message. Not sure though.
This worked for me, without first receiving the message.

Inserting my information into the url text and browsing to that link resulted in a response page showing the cyber owl and "UPDATE SUCCESSFUL" text. The charge happened sometime within a few minutes of getting the response.

Here are three suggestions:
1. Make sure you want the new horn. You can't go back to the old one - at least, for now.
2. Replace the right and left brackets and the text between them with your VIN and reservation number.
3. Include the "RN" in your reservation number.

Happy cyberhonking!

Huh? Cybertruck software sucks? Name one non-Tesla that has more functional, more intuitive software than the Cybertruck.

And it's non-sensical that you think by offering you a free choice of horns after your purchase is "lording over you". If you don't want it, don't do anything. Nobody is trying to control you.
maybe my expectations for auto software is too shaped by Apple car play and Honda; I don’t claim to have high tastes, but lm accustomed to large UI buttons, accomplish nearly every task with one physical interaction with a physical button or large UI icon. I’m accustomed to alerts and warnings being non-obtrusive, not obnoxious sounds that turn down the radio…I’m used to customization options not artificially limited…

with the lack of physical switches, buttons, knobs, etc…the software largely defines the driving experience. There are so many annoying things about that software…like, if you are in reverse and you notice the auto nav can’t seem to remember the route you want to take to work, you are forbidden from changing the navigation unless you shift out of reverse — even if not moving. Auto shift won’t work unless you have a seat belt on. FSD nanny freaks out if you unbuckle seat belt (startlingly loud) and heaven forbid you doesn’t much time screwing around with setting destination in navigator while FSD is running or you’ll get a strike (not to mention their bizarre lockout/penalty mechanism).

don’t get me wrong. I love that I have a sports car that can do truck things…and FSD works great if you baby sit it like a California Karen. But if I were in charge of UI, I would open source the UI to the extent possible or at least modularize / theme interface so people had far more ability to configure it.

Hogwash ?
Your bold opinion still won’t get it for you.

And hey some folks never had a one-time choice. Me, as long as ahole gets out of the way, the horn can sound like Godzilla’s toxic megafart for all I care.

I've never used the horn during a driving situation since owning my CT. Can't remember if the last time I used a horn in any vehicles. Wish we were like other countries who uses the horn every 5 seconds as a way to communicate with drivers. I actually had to push the horn button on the app to test it out. I did the update. Will be good to use the horn to scare people checking it out in the parking lot.

Replying to an earlier poster optimistically expecting this to be adjustable "because it is Tesla," I said "because it is Tesla ...eventually." I've waited long and patiently for Tesla to deliver promised and often requested features over many years. They just seem to do it when they feel like it, but you should never say never. I remember when we first asked for backup lines on the rear camera on the original Model S and they said it wasn't possible but then delivered them a couple years later.

My guess is that because this is a safety feature that requires certification they are being cautious about exposing software controls to the UI, hence it has to be downloaded. They can probably work that out ...eventually. Will they do that for the limited set of customers with the physical horn? Probably not, but maybe they will get certification for a set of speaker horn sounds everyone can switch ...eventually. ;)

NHTSA is very serious about you not being able to change a manufacturer sound.

Hi Crissa,
Do you know if there’s any kind of online resource that we could read to confirm this statement? Many cars have aftermarket horns, I don’t know if they’re legal or not, but it would be super helpful to read the official rules so I can better understand what’s going on here. Thanks!

That sounds plausible, given that it is perhaps wanted to have more choices, but that the choices would be subject to regulatory hoop jumping, and that it's a nice-to-have but not necessary beyond having one sound that's compliant everywhere.

A complication is the number of jurisdictions. The US federal requirements seem modest, but states can have their own limits on volume; some may disallow multi-note horns (first five notes of La Cucaracha), etc. Then toss in requirements in Canada, Mexico, and anywhere else you want to sell the vehicle, and the choices are while not zero, definitely constrained.

I wonder what the thinking behind making this a permanent thing is? Why not just a configurable option? Maybe regulators don’t like it? I remember when they briefly offered all kinds of custom external. sounds via boombox (pre cybertruck) and I think regulators shut it down pretty quickly.

I am also on the fence but trending toward "no." My reasoning is primarily because I like having the horn connected to a dedicated horn for potential future upgrades. Can replace the horn with air horn, etc. easily. As soon as I upgrade to a software horn I am stuck with what Tesla allows. Also, since it seems most people are switching (for good reason, it is a much more commanding sound), FS with the original horn intact could become rare commodities.
