Using math on people is often ineffective.I had to ask ChatGPT what the odds of this would be:
“The probability of buying 4 new cars in the past 5 years and 3 of them being lemons, given a 1% chance of any new car being a lemon, is approximately **0.000396%** (or about 3.96 in 1,000,000). This is an extremely rare event.”
As a math major, I often do the same thing to explain how unlikely things are to people but apparently ever other person I meet in life is that 1 in a million person.
But then I do the math to see how likely it is that 50% of the people I meet to be in one in a million situations and realize it's far more likely they are lying/exaggerating
