IDK if this applies to anyone else, but my range using FSD is much better than my own driving.
If you are comparing efficiency at similar speeds, that's a sure sign you are inadvertently "yo-yoing" between regen and mild acceleration without being aware of it.

You need to buy it under your business name, and have tax liability, to take advantage of that $7500 tax credit.
I placed the order last night. I talked to a tax person in Austin. He said that if the truck meets the criteria, $7500. Even if it is not on the list now, you would just have to wait to get it directly from IRS as a tax credit instead of at time of purchase.

I can wait. would have rather had it at purchase, but either way.
Also, others talking about the battery composition, does not make much sense. I believe Some Model Y's have the same battery packs and qualify?

Got text that I should be assigned a vin shortly. and delivery will be set up after that.

It cannot exceed $80K, so I ordered the basic version. I can always change tires and rims, and as for the white interior, I like the gray better. white will get dirty with me. All the other accessories I can by a little at a time. And FSD, I have now in my M3 and really don't use much. Will lease by month if I really want it.

I am buying the CT because I just like it. Have for the last 5 years now.

It would be more accurate to say FSD will almost certainly be $8K or more, in the future. Because the price of entry should and will rise significantly as it nears maturity. I won't address monthly subscriptions because I've never liked adding to my monthly expenses (vs just buying something outright). Many others don't have that aversion. If you go that route, just know the monthly subscription will rise too, perhaps more than many think is reasonable, once we have full autonomy. It will make your insurance cheaper if you actually use it a lot, but the net cost will still be high.
That is one reason why I think FS Cybertrucks (and those vehicles that have FSD purchased in full) will not only retain their value but increase their value once FSD is fully solved.

I would even say that Tesla will stop selling cars when FSD can be purchased as a one-time cost: it will be 100% subscription-based based and like you said, the monthly costs won't stay at $99/month.

I thought that’s how it always is ? I’m in California and I believe I had to wait till I filed my taxes and all that to get the credit deducted from my taxes ? I also think if you don’t owe $7500 in taxes they don’t give you it all.

It was like that a few years ago, but the law changed this year and you could get it at time of purchase. the dealer was responsible for turning in the paperwork and they would get the money.
Some dealers still don't want to do it. But IRS says if you qualify, you can get a refund time.

I may not be a tax person, but I have bought a few EVs and from my understanding. If it's not on the list at time of order (and previously not taken delivery of before removed but I don't think this applies anymore) then you can't claim it. They have specific paperwork that needs to be processed before it can be considered. There is a reason it was on the list before and is no longer. I would proceed with caution.

Also, FSD does not put you over the limit because it's software. That's why if you order a model X and get FSD right now, they give you a free option. Because the option would otherwise put you over the limit but fsd doesn't.

Does anyone know if they’ll let you transfer FSD from another Tesla you’re trading in? I’ve seen them do it for other models, hoping they allow that here.
Unfortunately, Tesla does not allow FSD transfer to the Cybertruck. I also think that allowance might have ended at the end of September (unless Tesla extended it).

I was talking about the business tax credit. All signs are that the Cybertruck does not qualify for the consumer tax credit. Sure, it's possible that Tesla will get the IRS to interpret the rules in such a manner that it qualifies, but I don't see that as being a high probability. If that does happen, you could qualify for it retro-actively, if you meet the other criteria (like sales price and income limits), but I certainly wouldn't buy it thinking it was going to happen.

That said, if the IRS rules do become re-interpreted to make the Dual Motor eligible for the tax credit, now might be the time to buy. Because there is no guarantee the tax credits will remain a going concern through 2025.

Congrats on your order though!

The price without software options, tax, license and delivery and order fee has to be below $80K if the Cybertruck becomes eligible. That means you could get the truck and FSD, but not anything else.

On the other hand, there is no price cap for the $7500 business tax credit.

edit: I believe the consumer tax credit eligibility would be retroactive if it was based upon a reinterpretation from the IRS (making a formerly ineligible vehicle eligible). However, if the change was based upon a manufacturing/sourcing change from Tesla, then only the individual vehicles that qualify would be eligible.

That said, it can be complicated because Tesla has the ability to "group" or average a production run of vehicles with varying sourcing together, if the sourcing of a group of vehicles meets the eligibility requirements, then all those vehicles can become eligible.

What we need are less rules (or more simple rules) dreamt up by government bureaucrats to muck up the normal functioning of capitalism!

That's not correct for purchses in 2024. The vehicle credit must be approved through the IRS/ Dept of Treasury portal at time of purchase.
