The parking lot at the Design Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico is really tight and I'm always a bit apprehensive parking here.

and lo and behold my fear became reality as I was backing out, a car pulled in right behind me.

My bumper contacted her car and did a number on her side door while my bumper had only a few minor scratches.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

and my insurance stated this type of accident is common and that i was at fault but they were impressed there was no damage to my truck
other than the cosmetic scars.

Absolutely love my cybertruck.

PS I never got a proximity warning as i usually do when parking in and around other cars.

I never understand people that drive through a parking lot totally oblivious to the fact that another vehicle's backup lights are on.... while you may technically be at fault, the driver of the car was certainly negligent or at least totally oblivious.... not very defensive driving.

Curious, did your Cybertruck give any warning of the impending collision, beeping or another alert?

A testament to the bumper, seems odd that you didn't get a cross traffic reverse warning etc.

I’ve had my CT for about 3 months. Couple of weeks ago I got rear ended in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway. I felt the impact and expected the worse as I got out of my truck to inspect. Dude’s front end was pretty badly damaged but I couldn’t see any damage at all to my rear bumper so I simply got a pic of his license plate and DL. Inspected it further when I got home and I suppose *maybe if the planets are perfectly aligned and you are shining a flashlight at the bumper you can kinda sorta see a very small imperfection. Good day for me. Bad day for him.

Do you use your mirrors when backing, or your cameras?

Glad to hear no external damage, but will be a good idea to have the body shop do a thorough inspection after taking the bumper out for any interior damage.

I counted 3-4 seconds from him entering his truck to hitting her. She was driving fairly slowly too.

Technically? He was 100% at fault. I doubt he looked at all. Even if she had stopped when she saw him backing up, it would have just changed where he hit her.

even with all the warning and assistance shit happens....thats why we have insurance. When Tesla gets FSD with Backup functionality it should help us all when we may have not had our coffee as yet.
