A passerby asked me what the ratio of AWD to Beast was. I’m assuming somewhere in the neighborhood of 5:1, but I’m not sure. This forum is about as scientific as we can get. Answer truthfully!

We have quite a large CyberTruck population in Boca Raton, Florida and the surrounding areas. I would say I experience a ratio around 8-1 (AWD to CyberBeast).

From both my experience (east coast) and a budies experience (west coast) it is at least 7:1, this was while there were only foundation. I have only ever seen 1 non-foundation cyberbeast and over a dozen AWD.

Kind of hard to know what you see lately. Tesla got super lazy with the Cerberus badge. Mine looked like this on delivery day:

Another guy I know got an AWD and his tailgate had about the same thing on it.

Anybody have FOMO/ennui from not getting to choose a quad-motor variant?

Not really, even in 2019 they only advertised a tri motor. I don’t think Tesla sees an advantage in a quad motor, and they’d know better than me. Even the Roadster is only supposed to be a tri motor.

Not entirely correct:

In December 2021, Musk tweeted that the initial Cybertruck variant would be quad-motor, stating:

"Initial production will be 4-motor variant, with independent, ultra-fast response torque control of each wheel."

Now by the time it was time to order they took it away. But, he tweeted this in response to Rivian and GMC having quad motor. I’m not sure of the internal decision-making that led to them dropping it but efficiency probably paid a big role.

I did a little bit of research since I was curious and it seems like the Rivian’s with the quad motor are having overheating and half shaft problems so seems like it was a good decision. I was just wondering if anybody felt like it was something they were really missing.

For my part, even if they had have offered it, I was going to stick with the trim motor mostly because I thought that they would use that as an excuse to make me pay more for FSD because it would have constituted a change from my original order and I also thought that if you got a quad I would get thrown to the end of the line. Obviously, none of those fears/opportunities panned out.

I guess I missed that one. I never heard any rumors of a quad motor so I never had anything more to hope for. But yes, Rivian is redesigning their quad now and aren’t currently selling it last I saw. Even the fast Hummer is a tri.

I’m guessing, like you said, an extra front motor considerably adds cost and reduces range. Probably won’t do much for launch times since all the weight shifts to the rear and that’s where most of the torque comes from.

I'm fine with dual motor. But I do wish we could have that 500mi range. I'd even settle for 400mi if I didn't have to give up bed space for it.
