exactly! but it's a little harder to forget you're at a gas station and just filled up like 3 seconds ago with the pump right next to you and the unmistakable smell of napalm(gasoline) in the morning unless your memory is that of a goldfish. (goldfish have 3 sec max.) But I have personally witnessed this very thing except it was a police black and white driving down the road unaware what they had done. good thing we have quick release and automatic shut off valves on those fuel lines. I'm sure it took some deadly cases before those were implemented. you can't always count on humans to do the right thing. You can trust robots. they do what you tell them and never forget. so why not? why wait for a deadly case to happen before fixing with a simple reminder.
I'm confused. Did your truck not warn you that the outlet door was open and the tailgate was down?

I think this would be the most correct UX design:

on first occurrence, have a high vis pop-up that you have to acknowledge to proceed, but give us an option in the menu to toggle the warning on or off. I charge my e-moto while driving down the road, so there are definitely some great use cases.
It already warns you if the outlet door is open, I'm not sure why we'd need a second warning.

Maybe a company can make a 48v strip heater. The frunk power outlet can be used and the strips can go under the headlight on the bumper to melt snow. Just an idea.

Yep, I'm aware. But to the point of OPs concern, I think it would be reasonable to not allow you to proceed driving unless you ack the pop-up warning. But also allow us to toggle the warning.

There is a good chance Tesla bakes this in over the next few months. Surely this isn't the only time someone has drove off unaware that something is still plugged in.

this is 1000% the correct answer. the canbus will also allow automation and better UI integration. Something like:

If [weather report] = [snow/ice], then [activate defrost pads]

No thanks. And given that people can still drive into their garage with the falcon wing doors open on their Model X, I seriously doubt Tesla will be adding anything of that nature anytime soon.

So you don't want Tesla to implement a safety hazard warning on something that you can toggle if you don't want to be reminded?

No, I don't want something that makes my vehicle not move until I confirm that I really want it to move, after I've ignored the warning that my power outlet door was open, put the vehicle in drive and pressed the accelerator.

Even if there's an option to disable, where do you draw the line?

You are low on wiper fluid, are you sure you wish to drive? Yes
Your tire pressure is low, are you sure you wish to drive? Yes
Your door is ajar, are you sure you wish to drive? Yes
Your tonneau cover is open, are you sure you wish to drive? Yes
Your power outlet door is open, are you sure you wish to drive? Yes
There is something plugged into the rear outlets, are you sure you wish to drive? ...

How about people - especially those who deem themselves competent to pilot a technologically complex, nearly-7,000-pound vehicle, on public roads - accept a bit of personal responsibility?

my tailgate was not open, tonneau was slightly open and yes, I do get a msg about the outlet door open, but I had been leaving it open since I started working on the gate. I don't remember seeing this warning that day but its posible I just ignored it like I have in the past. so maybe it's my fault for not making the association that door open doesn't just mean door open it also means something could be plugged in. It would be good practice to only leave it open if you do have something plugged in.

My assumption is that the closed outlet door creates a weather tight seal. Leaving it open my allow water intrusion where it isn't wanted. I may be incorrect in my assumption, but there's a reason they added an outlet door open warning.

you're also assuming that it's raining or snowing but I guess your right
look everyone this is all constructive criticism here and for the good of cybertruck now and future models and its owners I'm here to learn just as much as I'm here to teach even if we learn from my mistakes or someone else's mistakes if sharing your mistake helps another from repeating it. then that's a positive net gain. Don't hate the messenger.
