Range Extender in the bed - no capacity left 🤷‍♂️

My post had it wrong, sorry about the confusion. The image from the Owner's Manual was missing some key info. I previously acknowledged the error in Post #14 in this thread.

The bed capacity of a Cybertruck is 919 to 1,310 lb, if the passenger capacity is maxed out. The maximum passenger capacity is theoretically assumed to be 750 lb (or 5 x 150 lb, because the Cybertruck seats five, and because 150 lb is an industry standard for passenger weight).

So if the passenger capacity is less than 750 lb (which would normally be the case), the bed can handle more. For example, if there are only two passengers, weighing 350 lb total, then that is 400 lb below the theoretical max, and the bed capacity numbers above go up by 400 lb.

Five things:

First, nobody would know if Tesla merely de-rated the payload on paper, or actually choose to build to that de-rating (every truck can do more than they’re rated at, question is if they can safely - see eg the tire discussion above)

Second, having a higher payload does not convert 1-to-1 to a higher towing rating (though it could)

Third, the AWD would continue to have more payload than the Beast

Fourth, the Beast would continue to get only 300mi EPA combined range (or only 60% being a “long range” version)

Sixth, to match tire load to that payload, you’d have to get new tires, which new tires will blow both your range further while also sapping that sexy 0-60 to over 3 sec at least


Doesn’t sound like a 2019 “Tri-Motor” to me: less range, less payload, and less towing than an AWD, and a 0-60 that starts with a ‘3’ at best?
