Finished install of my new steel rear bumper from Unplugged. The install went well except that the tow receiver was welded on the wrong side and reversed. This issue was a manufacturer glitch and I’m not sure how many others this effected or just mine. I had the bracket cut off and welded to the other side. I’m happy to say that Frank Sabo @ Unplugged was amazing and helped out during the corrections.
I’m am waiting on my new front steel bumper to arrive (back order). The only thing I didn’t like about my CT was the plastic bumpers. I think the truck deserves more. I’ll update this post when the front bumper arrives. Thank you again to Frank and the Unplugged Performance Team.

Weight difference? Does it interfere with any attachment or lifting points, or affect ground clearance? Is it reasonable to suppose that it would transfer force in an impact at least as correctly as the OEM bumper? Is the size about the same (so that FSD/autopark allowances for vehicle size aren't affected)? Part replacement aside, any anticipated impact on future service with the 3rd party part?

There's absolutely a potential for better bumpers, and that one looks good, but the devil is in the details, which might not be what one anticipates.

I tend to be very cautious about mods as contrasted with accessories, esp. since I'm not up for installing them myself anymore. For me, even minor ones had better be easily handled, installed, and restored to OEM configuration. Not into custom truck for extreme activities, not at all. Barely into minor truck-specific activities, since moving myself around isn't fun anymore.

Of course, others may have more demanding uses or expectations, and that's great. I just worry about engineering and unexpected problems with mods, even if they only affect me if one of them falls off in traffic in front of me. :)

That UP rear bumper looks like it belongs there. it matches the truck’s looks very well.

What are the side rails / protrusions for? I could see where those might pose a problem when entering or existing my garage unless I account for the additional width. Just wondering what their function is...

They are optional add ons as rear rock sliders or could be used as a step into the bed

Love to see it, Dave!

I wanted to thank you for being so understanding of the one off issue we faced from manufacturing and glad we were able to cover the out of pocket cost from having it fixed. Very excited to get you the remainder of your order in the near future!

Hi @UP_Frank , I plan to buy both front and rear bumpers along with your underbody armor once it comes available. I have one question. How robust is the circled connection below? If I were to, I don't know, drop a back hoe on my hitch and crack the aluminum frame and then take my 11,000lb Airstream out on a trip, would that connection be sufficient to keep the bumper attached long enough for me to pull over should the aluminum fame fail? If not, how hard would it be to strengthen it enough that it can?

Personally, if I knew there was damage, I would not attempt anything like that.
