I have found no reason to remove it.

As part of the aero design of the truck, one "con" is that it will slightly reduce your highway range. Reconnecting the airflow at the back of the vehicle is more important (to Cd) than the shape of the front of the vehicle.

So does this mean a hitch mounted bike rack or box is worse for range than anything you do to the front?

The box might be within the stagnant area and have minimal impact. The top of the bikes would likely add drag.
How did I not guess that YOU would know the answer to that? Tesla needs to hire you in some fashion
