That’s the reason I didn’t go with any of the over mirror solutions. The wires run through the mirror mount.

Got it, It looks like you had to mod the mirror socket the tesla ball mount snaps into. And there is not much room to feed the wires through the tesla mount. Did you have to drill bigger holes to fit the wires? What is the mirror brand and can it display 4k /2k images?

I did drill it our just a hair to to get the interior plug to go through, had it been much more, I would have de-pinned the plug fed the wires through one at a time.

Updated my camera in the rear to one with much less wide angle. Claims to have 130 degrees of view. It looks much better.

Subscribing. It boggles my mind that Tesla in their infinite wisdom of cutting corners to save cost/pennies got rid of the digital rear view mirror, and the Model X style instrument cluster.. The prototype has both of these features... I believe it is a great business opportunity for someone to come up with the solution in a "kit" form..

Awesome, thanks for the instructions. I will say that the rearview display on the media screen is definitely growing on me and keeps my eyes from having to look multiple places.

I unhooked the FM radio module in the ceiling and used it as a power source.

Ended up getting this camera, on Ali express. Decent quality, good view angle, and right connections. Very cheap, but took forever to get shipped.

OK, "I am an idiot" time.

I carefully installed a Type S wireless backup camera. Took power from Tesla front camera (15V by my meter). Works perfectly - for 90 seconds at a time. Yep, I did not RTFM closely.

You can tie into the radio module above the drivers seat. I disconnected it completely so I didn’t have to worry about current draw.

My problem is not the power, it is the unit itself. The Type S I bought is a backup only camera so it shuts off on its own after 90 seconds.

That’s a shame, I would think there would be a setting for that. Such an arbitrary time, I’m sure there are tons of use cases where you’d want to leave a reverse camera on for longer than that.
