Curious if anyone here has experienced this? Can’t imagine many people have removed wraps so soon considering the cost. Mines been wrapped in clear since January and looks great. If there was a chemical process happening beneath the wrap I should be able to see it and I don’t see any problems.

If this is true, couldn’t polishing be an option (it would be expensive and would have to do the whole truck to make it match). Another option would be to just rewrap it.

My main question is do you think this is bogus? If someone has experienced this would love to see pictures.

This is why I did it through Tesla . If it messes up the panels I get new ones :)

For a more nuanced answer:

The finish of stainless steel will be impacted by covering it. If fully deprived of the oxygen needed to maintain the surface layer, it may become vulnerable to corrosion and rust. However, this is nothing that cannot be addressed with aggressive cleaning or at worst refinishing.

You won't notice it on a whole wrap, because all the panels are covered.

This happens to vinyl lettering and paint too. You'll see a "protected" portion of the paint. Usually goes away on paints, depending on how long it's been on.

This is NOT bogus! I happen to have met the owner while on Cyber Odyssey 11.2... He's a really nice guy too!

BUT, you have to realize that it was just vinyl LETTERING that was put on, not a 'wrap' or such... And, as we all know, there's a HUGE difference in quality when it comes to products like this...

I actually had the same thing happen to me, but it was YEARS ago on a car with PAINT on it!

Silly me, I had just bought the cheapest lettering I could and put it along the top edge of my trunk (just above the tail lights) on a 1973 Dodge Charger... When I removed them, you could still see the 'ghost' image... They had been on there for 2 years...

I thought it was the paint where the letters were had NOT faded, but, turned out that was the issue... The paint where the letters were had oxidized...

I am betting the same thing happened to Aaron's (the owner) CT...

Thanks for the info. The title of the video is misleading because it talks about wraps being removed. That's entirely different than vinyl lettering. The vinyl lettering issue doesn't surprise me and exists today with paint.

Did he use BKF on it? Or Citrisurf? I have not encountered any stain or discoloration those would not take off. Including discoloration from a sticker.

Last I 'chatted' with him, he had not used BKF on it... He was going to though...

I don't know if he'll end up having to do the whole panel or not though... Depends on if the 'stain' is actually IN the metal or if it's the metal that's oxidized AROUND the letters (making it look like they are still there).

Just got a message from him a couple of min. ago...

He said "Yea just a couple of rounds of bar keepers friend and the blue scotch brite. Fake news is desperate for anything they can find to get clicks."

So, in other words, it's another 'non-story'...

I had stickers on mine for about a month. When we removed them to put on the current stickers there were no markings after using rubbing alcohol.
Granted this was not long term but that has been my experience.

Obviously different than a wrap, but I had a 2’ magnet on my door for a week (advertising a league I run) and it left rust or something in the metal. Couldn’t be removed by washing or ironx. Used BKF and was able to get most out in a couple rounds, but if I went far enough to get all the way out I would have had to really work it on all panels, so left those spots more buffed than the rest and still have spots in the metal.
