Has anyone installed laser jammers? Had them on my original Model S, saved me (for sure) at least twice). I know the R8 does a decent job of detecting laser, but it's basically a ticket-notifier. Seems like they'd be relatively easy to install on a CT.

Do you think tapping the 14-15v inside the autopilot camera housing on the windshield can handle a 1 amp draw at 5 volts?

That’s what the detector is for… to NOT get pulled over. This Uniden has saved my ass. It picks up cops 2 miles away and once from hill to hill I had his presence 9 miles away. I regularly run > 100 mph on CO-UT trips and I am warned way before I get near them. No tickets or even getting pulled over in a very very long time. Unless a cop has PC, he can’t pull you over… you know this.

They don’t use laser near me, so I am one of the lucky ones. But many of the cops on the front range who use laser forget to turn off their KA band, so I usually know they are there anyways.

The only way he is gonna get me is creep up on me with his radar off. I scan my rear all the time. If he is in an undercover vehicle that looks super normal, then he may get me. But I haven’t had that situation yet. Knock on wood.
One of my main complaints about the CT is the crappy picture quality of the in-display camera feed. It's pretty much impossible to determine if the car behind you is an unmarked cruiser or... anything. I really wish there were more options available to either digitally zoom the rear camera, or increase the image size on the top of the main display without taking up the whole screen like the camera button does.

Could. Not. Agree. More. At least half the reason I still have the mirrors is because I can't see enough detail in the rear view camera. Would love for the option to have it span the top 25% of the center screen.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but this sounds like an opportunity for another fantastic AO product! There's already another thread where an enterprising individual mounted a camera on the tonneau "sail" cover. I hope there's another cover or film product coming soon to help with rear camera dirt/hydrophobic protection.

Also, what's the consensus on laser detectors/jammers? I've always believed they are nothing more than ticket notifiers because, physics, but curious to hear if anyone has a different experience. I too rely mostly on waze now plus general knowledge of all the hiding spots along my regular commute.

We have a superhydrophobic cover in prototype, but it's slow going. Trust me when I say that none of the 'magic' treatments work. I wish they did, but tried them all at the point. Every now and then when I get a spare hour I look around for decent rear-view mirror/camera combos, if only for my own benefit, but not really found a great solution.

After much deliberation, I'm going with the R8. It was that or the Valentine, but on balance, and considering I'm IOS and don't really want to run a companion app, the R8 seems the better choice. I've not had laser jammers since my first Model S in 2013, but certainly considering for the CT. I have zero doubt they saved me from a couple of tickets, just haven't really explored the best installation options for the CT.

You kinda can… hit the camera button…and you can get it to show in a large portion of the screen.

yeah, true, it's the kinda bit I don't love. For me at least, I don't want to see the side camera too, I'd just prefer a letterbox view of the rear view spanning the width of the screen, and everything else below it still accessible (Nav, Music etc).

I realize this might be getting a bit niche now, but since Tesla totally cheaped-out on not having a digital rear-view mirror, seems like they should offer a few viewing options in the single screen. This might be one of those things that will continue to bite them as CT rolls out to the non-diehards. Unlike the stalks, which I think, most people get used to and can eventually see the logic, the rear-view, less so.

Anyway, back to radar detectors, R8 arriving on Monday, and alu mount from PCBWay hopefully later next week đź‘Ť

I’ve always ran both Waze and a V1 (1st Gen) and the V1 has saved my ass a ton of times. If someone drives by a cop a mile down the road and the cop hits them with instant on, they are screwed, but you now know there is a cop there. Simple as that. I’ve also been hit by laser going pretty fast and not gotten pulled over - not sure if it was reflected off another car or my rapid deceleration triggered some sort of filter threshold on the gun, so getting hit with laser isn’t automatically a ticket… but it probably is.
