Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system needs a better way to report mistakes—something more effective than the current 30-second voice feedback, which isn’t enough to explain why I disengaged it. Sure, many drives happen without intervention, but that doesn’t mean FSD isn’t riddled with issues. The real problem? There’s no easy way to tell Tesla about them.
Here are some examples:
How’s FSD going to handle a world without driver controls? People will lose it when their car just sits there, clueless. Any thoughts on how Tesla could fix this—or how to get their attention?
Here are some examples:
- Fake Red Lights: At night, FSD mistakes my neighborhood’s yellowish globe streetlights for red lights. It stops at an intersection and waits indefinitely until I tap the accelerator to move it along. The screen even shows it thinks it’s a red light.
- Highway Entry Lights: At traffic-metered highway entrances, the green light is brief. FSD doesn’t react fast enough, leaving me stuck as people honk behind me. I have to nudge it with the pedal, but Tesla never asks why.
- Drive-Thrus: FSD can’t handle a fast-food drive-thru like In-N-Out. It doesn’t stop or roll down the window to let me order—there’s no option for that.
- Parking Garages: It won’t pause to grab a ticket when entering a garage or insert one to exit. I have to take over, and Tesla’s clueless.
- Map Errors: Navigation is often off—sometimes by a block, sometimes more. It might drop me at the wrong spot, like the front of a building instead of the parking lot, or pick the wrong side of the lot. These need fixes, but how do I report them?
- Parking Failures: FSD can’t park in my driveway if there’s a sidewalk in the way. It also struggles with diagonal spots—Tesla says it only does parallel or perpendicular. How will this work for robotaxis by June 2025? If I own one, will it just never park at my house?
- Carpool Lanes: Why is there a manual toggle for carpool lanes? It should detect passengers via seatbelts. In California, where carpool lanes can be two wide, FSD picks the inner lane it shouldn’t use, oblivious to the rules.
- Cybertruck Left Turns: Since the 2025.8.4 update, my Cybertruck’s rear wheel hits the curb on left turns with a median. It used to adjust at the last second, but now it doesn’t—cheerfully scraping along.
