3,000 mile update: Still very satisfied compared to the OE ATs. Solid rain and highway performance.
(No off pavement experience with these tires yet. But will be in a few weeks.)
I want to buy the Michelins but I have the PowerShare credit and don't need it so I will probably just get another set of AT from Tesla with the credit.

Well, after almost 27k miles, it’s time to replace the tires. I might have been able to get another 3k out of OEM tires, but I thought I should just pull the trigger. The Michelin's will be installed on Wednesday. I am looking forward to seeing and hearing the difference compared to the OEM AT.

Reporting that after about 6000 miles I feel like the traction is a little better dry than when new. Not quite as much felt wiggle on a beast launch. (subjective of course)

Platinum’s installed yesterday. Instant cushion improvement, of course since they are AS instead of AT.
PSA / Reminder: The wheel covers won’t FIT without wearing. I plastered them on thinking they would work because the first one I installed (see one of the photos) appeared to provide enough space for trial. However, after installing them to the rest of the wheels proved troublesome. So, there’s that. I’ll reinstall my center cap covers next.

Help me understand how the covers will wear. What am I not understanding?

Well, it’s done! American's Tires did a great job and was in and out in about 35 minutes. Too soon to really have an idea of the differences, but they seemed quieter on the freeway.

Please keep us updated on the road noise. I'm worried that they will be loud without the foam inside. The stock Goodyears are surprisingly quiet.

Any feedback regarding handling on dry windy roads? I've seen lots of info on noise, efficiency and smoothness, but not much on handling on turns, which is what I care the most about (of the Michelin vs the OEM ATs). Would appreciate any reports/feedback as I will soon need to replace my OEM ATs. Thanks!

I can tell you with my very limited use that they're quieter than the OEM AT. Foam making the tires quieter is barely noticeable based on my past experience with my Model 3.

@TheEther did you change the “Wheel & Tire” in settings from Cyber to Core?

Going on a little over 1500 miles on the Michelins. The handling is far superior compared to the OEM AT’S. I actually had to retrain my brain when steering, do to oversteering. I know the steering is effortless in the CT but these tires require even less driver input. It’s instantaneous when you turn the wheel. I really love this tire compared to the AT’S.

Well, after about 800 miles, I would have to say I am very happy with the Michelin Defender. They’re quiet and smooth, too soon to have an idea of their efficiency. I drive about 99% on the road with very little off-roading. But the looks of the Defender are more aggressive than other all-season tires, which I like. If anyone is considering the Michelin Defender, I would say go for it.

Are you inflating them to 50psi?
