I felt like Tesla’s video on the topic was a little bit misleading. I feel like you push the bracket into place gently before putting the wheel cover on. you don’t hammer it like they show in the video. When I tried it their way i slightly scratched one of my rims :/
So I waited so long to put these on. I liked the spoked rim look coming from ICE sleds with 22-23”s and thought the cyber wheels looked a little cartoony.
Now 7k miles into the Cyberbeast, my friend got a AWD CT and I loved his core wheel covers So I decided to try them out.
I remember the hub caps of yore. You hammered them in around the edge of the rim but they popped off easy. I imagined my FSD CB doing one of its left turn at an intersection slightly jumping the median on the way moves and thought it would pop off.
I was completely wrong about this product - if you have them in the wrap and havent even checked them out open them up.
They are soft and rubbery, not like a hard hubcap on a metal frame. Make sure you install using Teslas official video on the topic. I have seen a few others that dont have the right info about the inner mounting bracket.
Old style hubcaps were hammered in around the outer edge of the wheel rim. Thats not how these connect. ITs more like all of the connection pressure is focused into the center of the wheel. This shouldn’t pop off on a bumpy ride or over a curb. YMMV It’s like a big armored disk over the black rim With space on the edges for plenty of brake breathing.
All in all I am very pleased I put them on and like them better than the old look. I dont know how durable or how long they would last. Ill pull them off before any of—roading.
