I felt like Tesla’s video on the topic was a little bit misleading. I feel like you push the bracket into place gently before putting the wheel cover on. you don’t hammer it like they show in the video. When I tried it their way i slightly scratched one of my rims :/

So I waited so long to put these on. I liked the spoked rim look coming from ICE sleds with 22-23”s and thought the cyber wheels looked a little cartoony.

Now 7k miles into the Cyberbeast, my friend got a AWD CT and I loved his core wheel covers So I decided to try them out.

I remember the hub caps of yore. You hammered them in around the edge of the rim but they popped off easy. I imagined my FSD CB doing one of its left turn at an intersection slightly jumping the median on the way moves and thought it would pop off.

I was completely wrong about this product - if you have them in the wrap and havent even checked them out open them up.

They are soft and rubbery, not like a hard hubcap on a metal frame. Make sure you install using Teslas official video on the topic. I have seen a few others that dont have the right info about the inner mounting bracket.

Old style hubcaps were hammered in around the outer edge of the wheel rim. Thats not how these connect. ITs more like all of the connection pressure is focused into the center of the wheel. This shouldn’t pop off on a bumpy ride or over a curb. YMMV It’s like a big armored disk over the black rim With space on the edges for plenty of brake breathing.

All in all I am very pleased I put them on and like them better than the old look. I dont know how durable or how long they would last. Ill pull them off before any of—roading.

Tesla sells replacements for $75 ea

Is it possible that they can scratch the wheels? I've heard of others that scratched their wheels when they put them on. Please elaborate more details on this.

He’s asking about scratching the wheel, not the tire.

I have core wheels and the covers don’t use a retaining ring. They latch directly to the spokes. I removed them ASAP and went with hub/lug nut covers from T Sportline. Definitely a potential to scratch up the wheels with those. Less likely with cyber wheel covers, but still a possibility.

Just remember.... the wheel covers are two separate pieces.
1. Separate the two rings before you start the install.
2. The locking gizmos go BETWEEN the spokes, not over them.

(Do it right to prevent scratches.)

Mine had some minor scratching when I took the covers off. I may consider trying some thin felt tape when I decide to put them back on in the clamping spots to see if I can prevent further scratching, but I'm not sure if that would increase the chances of them coming off while driving.

If you were to install from the get-go with felt tape do you think it would prevent scratches entirely, while still allowing the covers to grip and not fling off driving / hitting a bump? I just got my covers, but I really don't want to scratch up the wheels.

Oh another quick tip - once you put the cover on and rotate it to line it up, make sure you don’t accidentally push the middle in at all when pushing the spokes in. You will get down to one final spoke that wont be able to clip into place and need to pull the cover and start over.

Definitely would of helped I only put the felt on the contact points. I used felt I had leftover from my model 3 aero caps that where aftermarket. But I think no matter what your gonna get small marks over time.

My caps have been sitting in the package for the same reason. I really like the black wheel look with the center caps I bought. Last night, I changed my mind and put them on. I bought the winter tire package, so I have two sets of rims. I’ll try them on this set and if they scratch them, I’ll only put the caps on the winter tire set. That way, I’ll still have the option to have flawless rims in the summer.
