So, add rubber in between??
Not that simple. When it rains, the water initiates connectivity between the steel and aluminum and pass electrical current between them (not through the rubber but around it). For folks in the warm states, that may not be a problem as rain water creates the connectivity between the aluminum and the stainless steel, and rain water alone directly is probably not strong enough to cause a problem. But for folks in northern states, getting magnesium chloride or sodium chloride (NaCL - salt) on the vehicle due to what the DOT places on the roads to prevent icing, begins the process of corrosion as it enhances electrical conductivity when wet since the chloride acts an electrolyte.

Here is a good paper on it:

https://nickelinstitute.org/media/1...sgalvaniccorrosionandit-preventionaebauer.pdf

Unless you wrap the entire thing in rubber, you will have a chance of galvanic corrosion.

For those interested in what galvanic corrosion is, think of a battery. When 2 different metals are in contact with an electrolyte in between, it can cause a small electrical current between them and a flow of electrons from one to the other. That can cause oxidation. Example... take a penny and a paper towel dipped in salt water, then place a nickel on top. Get out your multimeter and notice a current... thats called a poor man's battery. If you leave that, you will notice corrosion on the penny and nickel over time.

Apply a 2-way mirror surface to the camera lens. Looking at the surface will act like a mirror. But the camera will still show what’s happening back there.
No bueno. The driver can’t see the cameras from inside of the vehicle. There’s just no way around the requirement for side view mirrors if you want to comply with the law. I understand why some are doing this, but I’d rather not have to deal with the hassle of a fix it ticket. Or worse, a collision because you didn’t see something you otherwise would have with the MK1 eyeball!

I’m sure the aftermarket will eventually offer a low profile mirror that is a good compromise.

Billet Aluminum Mirror Delete Kit - https://cybertruckco.com/product/cybertruckco-billet-aluminum-mirror-delete-kit/

Finally arrived today and installed, looks badass! Took 15min to remove mirrors and install.

Pros: sleeker look, like the concept, better side visibility across the A piller. I like the detail lines on them, match the locking caps.

Cons: takes a second to look at the center screen when using turn signals for the camera. Although if you glance at the side and somebody there the red warning light comes on.

I know other customers shipped today as well.

what do you guys think?

I just don't get what the issue is with the side mirrors. We have had them and used them forever, and now they are a problem? I think the truck looks better with them too. The cameras are great, until you need to reboot the screen while driving because of a bug or glitch and now you have nothing as a backup.

Some people are so bored they need to mess with everything.. this looks so bad as well. Like someone stole the mirrors and glued a door stop up there instead. Terrible
Drag aside, if the case of the side mirror is plastic and you're going through bushes off-road, it gets scratched. People walking between cars bang into mirrors, which sooner or later doesn't do them any good. They make the vehicle a bit wider (not that anyone not from Flatland could get out the door with that little room anyway).

Wait until you see options coming out from a well known Tesla Accessory maker is released. Will be much cleaner and sheek than this but happy to see there are options.
I'm going to try and help you not look stupid here. Sorry if this offends. When you wrote "sheek" phonetically in English, you fucked up. No two ways about it.

You were using a French word. It is spelled "chic."

People will think you are a moron if you spell it "sheek."

I'm saying this to help you in the future, not to troll you.

So, when will they come out with "eyes delete"? I'm sure the Borg will gladly help anyone aspiring to be a drone. I'm glad that Neurolink currently is only being used for degenerative or debilitating conditions, instead of being used for regressive Frankenstein modifications to an already perfect design. But I bet it wouldn't be hard to find someone wanting Neurolink connected to their optic nerves from a camera so they can pluck their eyes out.

State laws are in place for a reason, besides the fact that the rear camera is a single point of failure, cannot be wiped off currently from inside the vehicle, and is unsuitable for backing trailers from its current position because the trailer itself will often obstruct the needed views. One thing for certain is that removal of the side mirrors will make a vehicle unsuitable for towing or backing trailers. Can one honestly say their Cybertruck will Never Ever be needed to haul or back a trailer? - because a Cybertruck will certainly last quite a long time.

I surprised this type of thread gets this much traction, but then again I've never aspired to be a Borg drone...

My opinion? I like @FutureBoy 's idea of a camera behind a one-way mirror (but on each side), and have it integrated with software such if the car's computer can't 'see' through at least one side mirror camera, then the vehicle stays in Park and the software assures drivers aren't compromising safety. Problem solved.

Haha totally fair. I was voice to text as I was posting while driving. Appreciate the call out.

My worry would be that if you put together different kinds of metals, there will be a chemical reaction. I think it was mentioned on Munro too that they have to isolate the gigacasting from the steel shell.

From our new friend, ChatGPT:

When aluminum and steel are in contact, especially in the presence of an electrolyte (like water), a galvanic reaction can occur. This can cause corrosion, particularly of the aluminum, due to the difference in their electrochemical potentials. It's similar to a battery. The aluminum and steel form a galvanic cell where aluminum acts as the anode and corrodes, while steel acts as the cathode and is protected from corrosion.
Simply use a gasket between the two metals; my preference would be pure teflon but it is white. Viton, black would look better. Although only a tiny edge of the gasket would be visible.

As far as the actual utility of the side mirrors or lack of, a driver should take all weather conditions into account. Great, good, bad and torrential.

I think you just created a hybrid of “chic” and “sleek”. I call it a win.

What you need is this product except the rearward face of the delete blank is mirrored... at least you could argue "But, it IS a mirror!"

Tesla Cybertruck Side Mirror Delete Kit installed from CYBERTRUCKco today 1716925426537-18

What if the rear facing side of this (opposite the orange arrows) were mirrored? It wouldn't Quite be the 126 cubic cms required to drive on federal roads...
(roughly 4"x4 1/2")
