Starlink and Inflation

After putting a 20%deposit on starlink over a year ago (I am rural and very limited for internet options), I finally got an email from starlink, but not an offer for service. They were informing me that the new cost of the equipment, due to inflation, was going to be 10% higher than what I put a deposit on and all new deposits would be 20% higher, while monthly service was going up by 10% as well. So, I think it is safe to say that the cybertruck will also see a significant cost increase too. Hopefully they stop pushing the dates back on the cybertruck, inflation is quickly outpacing any raises I could expect in the next few years.

SpaceX is seeing stiffer cost increases. Their Starship is running slow, as the FAA dinks around with allowing the orbital testing. And now fuel has doubled in cost.

They haven't nailed down the designs and as a portion of their cost even more chips than steel and those have become very scarce of late.

And they don't have a treasure chest of wildly profitable years and current buyers shouldering the costs on other products before they arrive.

These are not things that Tesla has to face.

The reason that inflation looks bad, but is thought to be transitory, is because it's in the 'goods' portion rather than services. Basically, stuff cost more because it was in short supply. But that doesn't mean more can't be made or that supply and demand will remain out of whack.

Notice they had to raise the price of their hardware more than anything else.

The thing about transitory is you never know it’s actually transitory until it recovers.

Yeah, but it's partly a fault in how we measure inflation.

It's like a seismograph - it doesn't know if the vibration is from a truck, ice, or rock moving. We just measure this surface amount. But just because the floor is vibrating doesn't mean the earth is actually moving.

Same for inflation. We just don't have methods to filter out false positives.

The primary driver for inflation atm is excessive currency injections from various governments to debase previous injections.

Its still pump the ponzi.

Russia is playing that game now to again by demanding their fossil exports be paid in ruble, just like commodities are defacto traded in USD. USD is not only spent in the US....inflation is "good" to devalue China USD reserves after years of trade deficits. It also puts more pressure on those with political dissent who demographicly live in the margins, who would otherwise think they are getting ahead. Win win to maintain control and votes of the working class and keep them dependant on handouts.

As for Starlink...it's great! The first terminal generation was highly subsidised to get them out the door to beta users, I think this newer version is selling at cost.

I hope you get connected soon. Prior to getting Starlink I had the worst service imaginable and it was 150 dollars per month! Hughesnet.
