Street Legal Aftermarket Side Mirror installed

Destroyed passenger mirror backing into the garage. While I wait for a replacement, I thought I would stay street legal. Took a spare block of wood, some paint, and an $8 mirror and came up with this.

In New York it is. the law reads " All vehicles must have a rear view mirror and at least one side mirror " so I guess I didn't have to go through all that trouble

Not sure if it is required in NY. Various thread on this topic. I did a quick google search and saw a jeep thread on reddit. Reference maybe helpful.


New York:

If the vehicle is registered in this state then left side mirror is required unless the vehicle is a 1967 or older model. Again, not sure if those classic Jeeps had side mirrors.​

If the vehicle is not registered in this state then side mirrors are not required as long as the center mirror is unobstructed.​

Leave to to Tesla to make removable side mirrors, and obstruct the rear view mirror. Also I've always hated the way mirror look on a car, their like the ears, least sexy part of a car, and seeing a car without the, make the car look so much better.

Dude! I'm so relieved! I did the same thing! I got in a big accident and I repaired it myself before I can get the body shop to do their thing due to the long wait... I think it turned out pretty good... nobody can tell!
