Another rookie question:

On the Tesla Find Us page, where it lists among other things the charging locations, they have two icons for superchargers. One of the icons says ”supercharger open to NACS” but then says NACS adapter required. Does that mean even for a Tesla CT?

No. It means for non-Tesla EV's that do not yet have the NACS port (most non-Tesla EV manufacturers will be begin installing NACS ports on their vehicles in the next year or so).

Basically, V3, V4 (dispensers) and Magic Dock superchargers can be used by non-Tesla vehicles in addition to Tesla vehicles (if you have adaptor or NACS port) . In theory, the vehicle has to have been approved to use them but there have been cases of non-approved vehicles charging with an adaptor

Magic Docks have the adaptor built in so you can select either.

  1. "Superchargers" are the V2 or earlier <=150kW pedestals
  2. "Superchargers open to NACs" are the V3 250kW pedestals
  3. "Superchargers open to other EVs" are the V4 pedestals with the Magic Doc connector.

There are exceptions I believe. Mainly I believe that there may still be some V3 pedestals that haven't been upgraded to support other vehicles. These will still be listed as Supercharger, but when you look at the details, they will be 250kW.

Any Tesla can use any of them. No adapters needed.
Non-Teslas with a NAC adapter can use 2. or 3.
Non-Teslas without a NAC adapter can use only 3.

The Magic Dock connector is basically a CCS1 adapter permanently mounted to the pedestal.

Thanks. That’s what I thought but the wording was a little funny.

Haven’t heard of Magic Docks. Interesting. Thanks.

My wife bought a VW ID-BUZZ and it looks kind of cute next to my Cybertruck , however I’m not thrilled with the idea of charging at an Electrify America charging station if we take it on a trip. Does anyone else here have a VW ID.4 and has figured out how to use the Tesla superchargers. I know the new V4 chargers have a NACS to CCS adapters however I don’t see any of them along I 95 on the east coast. It looks like an adapter like the A2Z Typhoon pro adapter should work on any of the V3 chargers.
I would appreciate any help you can give. A name and contact info of someone at Tesla would help “maybe” my local SC has no information and won't give out any names of people in Tesla to contact and they have no idea when Tesla will have an adapter for sale.

VW is one of the car companies that will be able to use Tesla Superchargers, however as of yesterday the network had not opened up to VW. All I could find is sometime in 2025.

VW should be contacting you at some point about sending you the "free" adapter. I'm sure you could call someone at VW to get that info.
