Tesla drivers say they've faced more incidents of road rage since they started driving the electric cars

  • Tesla drivers say they've faced harassment since they started driving the EV, The Guardian reported.
  • The electric-car owners say they've been heckled and cut off in traffic due to anti-EV sentiment.
  • Tesla cars are equipped with multiple cameras that have publicly documented the incidents.
Tesla drivers claim they've faced more incidents of road rage, like being cut off in traffic and heckled, since they started driving the electric car, according to a recent report from The Guardian.
"I noticed the road rage within the first week I got it," said one man, who lives in Thousand Oaks, California, and didn't want to be publicly outed as a Tesla driver.
He told the publication that he'd faced incidents of road rage eight times in November, alone. "I'll just be driving the same speed I had in my old Ford Fusion, but they'll cut in front of me and drive really slow or prevent me from switching lanes."
Multiple Tesla owners told The Guardian that the incidents appear to stem from anti-EV sentiment, rather than dislike of Tesla CEO Elon Musk — who is virtually synonymous with the brand and has generated a slew of polarizing headlines over the years.
One Tesla driver, John Shevelew, told The Guardian that the incidents seem more likely to occur in Southern states, where electric cars are less prevalent. Three more drivers said the instances of road rage are often perpetuated by individuals driving pickup trucks.
"It's almost always a guy in a pickup truck [who does something]," Laura Kennedy, a Tesla owner from Pennsylvania, said. "I don't think I've ever been flipped off in my life as much as I have in the past year or so."
There's no data to prove Tesla drivers face more road rage than others, but there have been several reports of situations where electric cars appear to be targets of harassment. In August, Axios reported that over a dozen Tesla drivers in Iowa had been "routinely heckled, cut off in traffic, and blocked from charging stations."
The publication detailed several common threads across the reports of harassment from the Iowa Tesla Owners Club, including instances of "rolling coal" and "ICEing." Rolling coal refers to moments when drivers of larger vehicles blow exhaust at an EV, while ICEing is when drivers of combustion-engine vehicles attempt to block electric-car owners from accessing charging stations.
Many Tesla owners have caught the instances on camera, and there's even a YouTube channel dedicated to Tesla car crashes — many of which are attributed to road rage.
The channel, called Wham Baam Teslacam, also depicts instances of people cursing out Tesla drivers, vandalizing the cars, and chasing them down. Teslas are equipped with multiple cameras and also feature Sentry Mode, a system that allows drivers to monitor their vehicles from afar.

.....

And these are only the few that are bold enough to post on the Internet. There are a lot more.
This behavior started way before Teslas became popular. 2010s Nissan Leaf owners experienced it to.

This behavior is my main concern with getting a Cybertruck.

Cybertruck will be like a magnet to these people and though I trust the protection of the truck I will still be vulnerable when get in or out of the truck.

There have been people murdered in their own home driveway by not one but multiple "lone wolf" and egged on by the don't blame our hateful rhetoric it was just "one" crazy person.

* When Alan Berg was alive (and murdered), I listened to his show and my commute took me within a couple miles of his house.

Murder of Colorado radio man Alan Berg still resonates 30 years later ( Now 38 years later).
Gunned down in his driveway by right-wing extremists that also targeted others for assassination.

Of course some somebodies had their horse do that. Just no Internet or twitter to spread the meme. No everybody has a camera in their pocket to capture the event and post on TikTok, twitter & Youtube.

I concerned the bulletproof glass will encourage pot-shots and maybe not stop a bullet one day.

Wow, a whole thread of people admitting to illegal acts.

While real people do post things like that, I'm begining to think most such comments are low-cost web bots trolling ani-EV messages to create a negative impression of EV's and dissuade people from buying them. The whole "EV's are for rich people" message is designed to cause people of ordinary means to dismiss the happy thought that they could buy one as as foolishly unrealstic and not consider it again.

Never had a road rage incident in my Tesla. Though my wife occasionally gets the truck drivers who think they need to race the red sporty car with a blond at the wheel… I suspect they are disappointed by the results. But based on their vehicle upgrade choices I suspect many of them are used to disappointment.

Definitely. But I think the issue will be the marketed bulletproof car

With a country of 330 million people, there is at least likely one idiot for anything.

And you are allowed to carry a gun. Which just gifts these idiots an easy pot shot.

Could be a 'thing' for some crazies. . Does anyone doubt that ?

Might get to the point that you Cybertruck hasn't lived yet, if it doesn't have a bullet hole lol

God, I hope not. !!!!!!!

The fear in some of those that harass EV's is palpable. I get the sense that many fear that if EV's become mainstream, they will no longer be able to buy the ICE vehicle of their choice. Obviously that's not going to happen no matter what our current Administration says.

My attitude is you buy what you want, and I'll buy what I want.

You can buy what you want.

Just don't expect to be able to release exhaust downtown or in the park or on spare the air days.

And there's no reason we should allow someone to manufacture and sell something that's spewing toxins everywhere.
