Got my lightbar yesterday. Here is my story. Bought one of the inventory Cyberbeasts with the free supercharging, connectivity, and FSD. Picked up Jan 7th with 12 miles on the speedo. I immediately submitted a service request for the lightbar. BTW, I live in CO. When my appointment approached, they contacted me and told me they were not going to cancel it due to the fact that they should be getting the lightbar in VERY soon. Rescheduled for next week. I took it down yesterday and they had the part. I was the FIRST one here in town. Uh oh. They said they would secure it to the windshield with nails.

Just kidding. All you have to do is BE NICE to them! Bring them some donuts or something, they like to be appreciated too. Ask them if it would be okay if before they put it all back together, if you could please go plug it in. They said sure but we cannot see it. Agreed. I plugged it in and they reassembled the truck. Got home, enabled the power on the touchscreen, yow! That sucker is BRIGHT. Love the look. YMMV. Good luck. Mac
Reply from my service center is attached. Tesla keeps snubbing its early adopters by not being transparent how people with more recent deliveries are getting their light bar before those waiting for more than 8 months.

Already tried that, appointment was cancelled….twice. I even gave them the part number to order
But remember they literally cannot order it. The hack is intended to trick the system into mailing it out to them we surmise there were some sort of AI involved in routing/logistics and this was putting you at the head of the line. It is worked for some of us and not others.

But under no circumstances can any SC order it for you. It doesn’t work that way internally. You have to use the magic words and hope that it works for you.

The situation is far from ideal and Tesla should be ashamed.

Yes, I tried the service order route, no success. Trust me, I am so pi$$ed that I have tried everything. I am disappointed and just going to be a good boy and wait in the “queue”

General question for the people interested.

I suspose I'll eventually get my light for my beast. Since the light is not legal in Maryland, and I don't want to keep it taped over, is there some way to make it less obvious that it isn't covered?

I'm thinking some kind of window tint dark enough to look black but light enough to let the light shine through (without melting)

I’m glad you asked this question. Somebody else asked recently something similar about what people were doing to avoid getting arrested and hauled off to jail because they have one of these on their car and it’s not covered. I wanted to respond to it but by the time I had time I couldn’t find it so it’s out there somewhere I have two answers on this one is considerably less serious.

1. I’m a lawyer, I don’t care! Write the ticket I’ll deal with it later. YMMV with this level of privilege/arrogance.

I spent a lot of time, money and energy going to law school; if I can’t fix a ticket then what’s the damn point!?

2. Now, let’s be practical for those of you who aren’t “officers of the court.” You really have to think about why these laws were written and how they’re going to be enforced.

Not put to fine a point on it, but these laws were written because back in the day there were a bunch of yahoos with a whole bunch of giant lights strapped all over their vehicles shining them around willy-nilly causing people to have accidents. They’re obnoxious, huge and obvious and if the police saw you driving around with these lights you would be targeted and probably ticketed!

Have you seen what this light bar looks like installed? First of all, you’re not going to notice it from the back. You’re not going to notice it from the side, unless you know exactly what you’re looking for. From the front, it doesn’t really draw your attention that strongly - you may see it and not process what you’re looking at, even if you’re in law-enforcement and on the lookout for such violations. So, when would you be targeted? If you were dumb enough to be driving around with the light on on public streets!!! In which case you, deserve the ticket and a sign from Jeff Foxworthy.

If not part of some secondary violation or checkpoint, you would have to literally encounter some kind of super cop!

They’d have to: first see you coming head on and without the lights being on noticed them and recognize exactly what they are. Then, they would have to have enough time on their hands, and nothing else going on, to turn around and follow you specifically to give you a ticket for this minor infraction, since unless the lights are on you’re not creating any of the actual problems for which the law is intended to address!

It would be the rare rookie that would have the skill and knowledge to put all of these things together and target you. Likewise, no seasoned officer (who isn’t some kind of freakazoid savant) is going to be coming for you for this.

So, I’m not saying that you can’t possibly get a ticket for this (and your experience may vary if you live in Mayberry and there’s really nothing else for the cops to do) but outside of that, I just wouldn’t worry and if you get a ticket or you’re pulled over you tell the officer that: this is original manufacturers equipment and you assumed that it was in compliance with all of the laws that are applicable it’s not something you added to your vehicle and now that you’ve been given this information, you’ll get some black tape and cover it up. Carry gaffer’s tape in your truck if you want to be able to abate something like this immediately.

Beyond that, be like Pumba and Bobby McFerrin.

Asked my service center in NC today in person for my light bar and they said they haven’t even installed one yet.
