'One model is priced from $US150,000 before on-road costs and has a claimed driving range of 300 miles (482km).
The flagship variant is priced from $US180,000 before on-road costs and has a claimed driving range of 500 miles (805km).'

300 miles would be approx 600kw
500 mile would be appox 1000kw

$30,000 & 400kw separates the 2 cars .. Retail, $75 pe kw.
Tesla may have rounded numbers, but will this raise eyebrows ?

Iā€™m pretty sure this article and a bunch of similar ones are confused. I donā€™t think they ever closed the Semi order books. Youā€˜ve been able to order them for 3 years now.

That pricing just took out the middle class (class 3ā€”7 trucks). Cheaper to buy Semi and convert than waste money for a more expensive smaller truck.

Likely makes more sense regardless. A lot of the mid sized trucks are highly custom. Ambulances, tow trucks, etc and need large batteries.

They gotta get their batteries somewhere.

I wonder how much range a Semi would have with a short, light aero panel van instead of a loaded trailer?

Truck Specialties with class3ā€“7 trucks dominate custom builds. But smart money will jump at a Semi in that price range, rather than skimp, down sizing to a lower class truck platform to both fit a specific use case and build an operation around when they can run a Semi on elec. juice.

Dependent upon weight and distance. un-SWAG:

Loaded with Scott toilet paper, it rolls 93% on the Semi single motor.

Loaded with Duracell batteries it rolls 87% on the single motor.

Loaded with soda driving city, multiple stops and a day-route back to reload it rolls 40% on single motor.

YMMV

You missed the "short light panel van" part. ^-^

I'd like to know how far it would tow my 18k lb 5th wheel.
My guess is it wouldn't change too much because my trailer is about the same height as a semi trailer and wind resistance is a major factor in range.

Cybertruck won't pull a 5th wheel at all. Those stupid wings are in the way, and I'm not sure you can attach a hitch since it has no frame. :(

I'm still not sure why I ordered one. I must have had too much to drink that night.

  1. It depends on the shape of the gooseneck and the height of the trailer.
  2. The whole body is the frame.

We've had this discussion before.

When I win the Powerball tonight (it's gonna happen - I don't wanna hear the negativity), I'm gonna try to buy a bunch of these short-range ones for my local farmer's co-op. I can't wait to see an electric semi hauling soybeans. And what better way to change your perspective about EVs than feel it take 82k lbs of grain up a highway onramp without creating a traffic jam behind you.

Iā€™d get a Tesla semi if only the drive through could accommodate me at the fast food joint.

Why is that a problem in this days & age where many places have their own in-house delivery service or out-source delivery to UberEats service. So eBike/taxi/robotaxi delivery to your Semi.
