I had my cybertruck in for service on 4/9/25. I was previously told by a sales person in La Jolla that I couldn't trade in my cybertruck within the first year. I'm allowed to sell it third market like private party and Carmax, but not through Tesla. I checked in with the sales staff and was informed that Tesla will not take Cybertrucks in trade now or in the future. This really tells you what Tesla thinks of the Cybertruck, they don't want them either.
Never say never. One sure thing we know about Tesla is that change is constant and often.

Exactly!!..

Just because they say no today doesn’t mean it’s not true…. It could just be today, at that space, in that region.. period.

Ergo, I still believe the word of the sales person over a bunch on random-yahoo-trolls on CyberTruck forums. 🤪

Aren’t Sales staff the ones that take the trade in when it comes in? Why wouldnt we believe them?
How would sales staff know strategic plans for the company?

This isn't sarcastic. They're barely privy to the company wide emails, the deets of which get shared here anyhow, and the crowd here obsesses over all news. It just doesn't make sense to take answers from the sales staff as more than 'they were told weeks ago' or 'do not know how to'.

Because people come into showrooms looking at Teslas and ask “can I trade in so and so….” The sales Rep should know.

I mean it’s really not hard to find out anyone, just do an appraisal on line and find out.

They're still only going to know the same answer we know by punching numbers into the website. There's no secret information they're privy to.

Considering I’m not turning in or trading in my CB I won’t know if this is true or not. However, if true this does not shine a good light on Tesla. If they can’t stand behind their own products that truly the downfall of the CyberTruck or even worse Tesla. I got this treatment from Mercedes with their EQ line up and last I checked they are planning of killing of the program all together or at least scaling back to a trickle.

Many Tesla vehicles, including Cybertrucks, are leased rather than purchased. At the end of the lease period, Tesla gets the used vehicle back (assuming the customer foregoes a lease buyout). Tesla can then add the vehicle to its own used inventory, or transfer it to some other used car dealer via an auction house.

So at some point, Tesla will have to start dealing with used Cybertrucks, because leases are going to expire and customers will be turning their used Cybertrucks in. It presumably hasn't happened yet, because the leases run for 2-3 years and the CT hasn't been available for that long.

Believe what you think is right, but I can guarantee you, you would be making a mistake. The collective wisdom here is gonna be better than just about anybody who doesn’t have “VP” or above after their name at Tesla.

Service center and sell staff folks are notoriously out of the loop at Tesla. We’ve demonstrated that time and again. If something’s going on with CT, right here is where you should start.

Hell, even the FUDsters and lurking journalists know that.

100% The sales staff are order takers, not true sales people. When I got my CT, I already knew more about the vehicle and accessories provided with the Foundation series than my "sales" person.

Not criticizing the sales folks but they lack the training and incentive to stay on top of things and be knowledgeable. I sold cars back in the 80s, we knew what our vehicles did and what competitors offered, or we didn't make our numbers. On top of that, Tesla isn't like a traditional car company- they raise or lower prices and offer incentives with no warning and they are instantly available vs a dealership that has floor planned vehicles at various cost to them.

I have no direct knowledge of Tesla's position on Cybertruck trade-ins. But I will point out one thing. Tesla has online listings of its new and used inventory -- and there is no option to search for a used Cybertruck.

If you want to look for a new Cybertruck, then OK, there's a button for that.

If you want to look for a used Model S, 3, X, or Y, then OK, there are buttons for that.

But a used Cybertruck? No button (no matter what your zip code is). That option is completely missing from the Tesla inventory system, at least for now.

Yeah...it's like getting 'inside info' from employees at an Apple Store...Cupertino isn't telling them anything more than us.

The state of the auto market will likely only get worse. The last 3 years people have been paying more than even "premium" prices for cars in the US. Like the housing "bubble" this bubble will burst as well. Vehicle prices were just INSANE!

MOST people who bought a car in the last few years are, likely upside down on the vehicle resale value vs loan.

My son has a two year old Ram 1500 and the resale cake is 5k less than what he owes and he had a great financing package.

The CT is, probably, the same. So, why would Tesla take it as a trade in under those conditions? If the vehicle market crashes like many expect Tesla won't be taking a CT or many other vehicles as trade ins depending upon the market value.
