I had my cybertruck in for service on 4/9/25. I was previously told by a sales person in La Jolla that I couldn't trade in my cybertruck within the first year. I'm allowed to sell it third market like private party and Carmax, but not through Tesla. I checked in with the sales staff and was informed that Tesla will not take Cybertrucks in trade now or in the future. This really tells you what Tesla thinks of the Cybertruck, they don't want them either.

Take that with a grain of salt.. It's coming from a sales staff. They're not high up enough to trust on a statement declaring "forever" or "never in the future."

Agreed. If I had $1 for ever time I heard something from sales or service staff that was not correct with company policy, or I found out later to not be correct...........I could buy another CT

My guess is that they don't want the bad press of low trade-in values from Tesla adding fuel to the fire on the CT values stories, and in another year or two they won't care and will take them in as trades like they do other cars.

Also they dropped the prices $20k, so they're not going to buy back a used car for thousands more than they sell them new

Edit: new Long Range ones are now HALF the price of the FS Beast a couple months ago.

I would believe “sales staff” over a bunch of random-yahoos on CyberTruck Forums

Believe what you think is right, but I can guarantee you, you would be making a mistake. The collective wisdom here is gonna be better than just about anybody who doesn’t have “VP” or above after their name at Tesla.

Service center and sell staff folks are notoriously out of the loop at Tesla. We’ve demonstrated that time and again. If something’s going on with CT, right here is where you should start.

Hell, even the FUDsters and lurking journalists know that.

It's fine. You never want to sell *any* vehicle back to Tesla, anyway. You will do much better on CarMax. Even better with private sale if you are willing to go through the hassle. To be fair, this is true for any car dealership.

Aren’t Sales staff the ones that take the trade in when it comes in? Why wouldnt we believe them?

It really makes no sense, since trade-in prices are driven by wholesale auction prices. Unless the auctions aren't taking CTs, there's no benefit to Tesla not accepting them. Here in NC, that could make a $2,000 difference in highway use tax on a purchase. Seems likely this has to do with a lack of interest in CTs at auction, since there's no reason for Tesla to refuse them otherwise.

I believe that the current unsold 2024 Cybertruck inventory, valued at $200M, is partially behind the no trade in policy. The low ball offers would also make headlines and give the news media another negative Cybertruck story to print.

Tesla is notorious for low-balling trade in’s. A seller would have to value convenience WAY over the thousands of dollars lost when they could have gone to Carmax or another wholesale buyer.

This isn't always the case. MY 2019 MX right now—CarMax offered 28K, third party dealers both offered 30k (low end of KBB) and Tesla offered 31.5K soo...

They definitely depreciate fast now like all EVs, even worse than most due to pricing reductions, market glut, etc.
