According to the video, the 4680 battery can go 619 miles, which is enough to go from Portland Oregon to Washington DC... I'm skeptical that the trip is less than 619 miles...?. Much less than the "4680 battery can go 619 miles".... Much of the info is soundbites that sounds good, but not really relevant or correctly applied to the examples given.

Basically, a hype video with questionable or mistaken claims.

Ref: Tesla's NEW 4680 Battery DESTROYS Solid State Battery Competition - YouTube

This is the latest news confirming that the 4680 is the best way forward.
Again, Tesla is making the best choice for their batteries.

Solid-state batteries show much promise. Unfortunately, promises don't pay the bills. The 4680 is here now, but solid-state is still years away from being viable.

Many were disappointed by the 4680 reveal at Battery Day: "wtf, that's just a bunch of small incremental improvements." Yes, but it's achievable in the near-term. Aspirational targets are great, but I gotta ship something today while the unicorn incubates.

You are correct about 619 miles (sorry!). The map that is in the video is incorrect for sure. However, I have been reading about the battery and their evolution. This is a work in progress. Tesla are making choices that is affecting the CyberTruck products (i.e., the 1, 2, 3 motor versions with various battery packs).

Exactly! That is what I was thinking about.

Maybe they confused Washington DC with Washington State?
Yes, I think that is what they did. I noticed that Porland Oregon was near Washington States.
I did drive across Canada twice (Montreal QC <-> Comox BC) and I know it is a lot more then 619 miles.

If you read the comments on the YouTube video someone suggested this: " That's the wrong Portland in your diagram. They meant Portland, Maine! Not Portland, Oregon. "

I take the Sac to WA trip all the time. Maybe optimistic numbers on distance on the Model Y vs the CT? In regards to weight and efficiency.

Without knowing what model and trim package, the 619 miles assertion makes no sense.

Unless, they grabbed the number from a screenshot listing what I thought said 618 miles.

The whole video needs fact checking. The source information from the video seems yo be YouTube, these fora and other unverified sources.

Since the assertions are what I want to believe, all positive statements must be facts.

If you look at the patent Tesla applied for that shows the display screen it showed the Cybertruck with a 610 mile range. If they are able to achieve that type of range that will be a game changer.

You could drive from:
  • San Francisco to San Diego (502 miles)
  • San Francisco to Las Vegas (570 miles)
  • San Francisco to Ensenada, Baja California (587 miles)
  • San Francisco to Salem (591 miles)
That is a really nice radius. To put it into perspective, if I pick up my Cybertruck in Austin, TX, I could drive home to San Francisco and only need to stop for charge two times. Once in El Paso, TX and then again Blythe, CA.

Do you own a Tesla? or have you ever owned an electric vehicle?
If so, you should know that 610 Range (EPA est.) is not 610 REAL RANGE!
I have big doubts you will drive from San Francisco to San Diego with no AC, with the speed of 50mph or whatever it is when it is tested for "EPA est."
Also, I highly doubt you will charge your battery all the way up to 100% and drain it to almost 0%.
As for me, I always read EPA est. range as minus 20% for the real world. So, FOR ME it is around 450mi usable range even if the Tesla site would say 610mi EPA est.

Therefore I preordered tri-motor CT knowing I will never tow anything and do not think I will use a payload of more than 1000 pounds.

P.S. Nothing personal!

Ford has their range with a 1k payload. So, the real world should be pretty accurate without the 1k payload. Unless your family is like mine.. My brothers and I are easily than 1k...
I agree to take all with a grain of salt and estimate 20% as a buffer.

It gets old really quickly driving to maximize range. Lead foot will only be tempered with insurance score.

If you could drive 90mph up a hill safely, why wouldn’t you?
