And this is what the dual motor Cybertruck sounds like while accelerating for anyone interested:

The dual motor and Cyberbeast sound different, most likely because Cyberbeast has more power.
Or twice as many gears in the rear for the dual motors there?

It will also depend on load, if the PM motor is up front (CB) or rear (AWD) and the only motor that is on and being used for cruise, and what gearing each motor set has.

I'd also say it would be because of straight cut gears and insufficient damping to the cabin, either by poorly tuned motor mount dampers, or not enough sound proofing to the cabin. There's also harmonics to consider, and it might well be that the large casts are acting as resonance chambers that amplify it at certain speeds and frequencies. Every car has its own resonance, which can also cause motion sickness in some passengers and not in others. Note that infrasound and lower frequencies, as well as higher audible frequencies can have a nauseating affect.

Thank you so much for information and you probably are right about it! Wow that was so well explained! I would say that most production Cybertrucks sound proofing is still good overall though personally. The one used in throttle house review did not sound well sound proofed but I guess they fixed that issue later in production before the owner of the Cyberbeast in the video got the Cyberbeast. Or maybe the throttle house Cyberbeast was a prototype. But in the awd video I think I can hear a bit of hmm sound while accelerating so maybe this one also has the sound proofing issue. It seems to me some of the early cybertrucks have the sound proofing issues but Tesla is getting better at it because the more recent deliveries don't make any hmm sounds while accelerating like the one in this awd video and in throttle houses video do and hum sounds at higher speeds like the one in Carwow did. They just have the whine sound of the motors like the Cyberbeast featured in the first two videos at the beginning of this thread do.

So far the most votes are for the Cybertruck motor whine reminding people of something else other than the other choices. I am curious what it reminds them of.

Also, if anyone has any good suggestions for a choice for what the Cyberbeast motor whine reminds you of, please let me know in the thread and I can add it to the poll.

Something else that is interesting is that in the test drive videos of the prototype Cybertruck in 2019 like this one below, you don't hear that much motor noise and I think it sounds like more tire noise than motor noise in fact. The motor noise still seems a bit louder than other Teslas but still quieter than the production model. The sound while accelerating and decelerating sounds more like the other Tesla models and there is little to no motor noise at a constant speed unlike the production model which seems to have a decent amount. The production model sounds louder and different so maybe it is due to straight-cut gears in production model or lack of sound deadening on its motors.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me why it would make the noise then. The noise does seem to come from the motors to me personally though. Are there any other electric cars that use straight-cut gears?
The Energica does. But that's chain driven.

Thank you so much for the information and video. That is very helpful. Some people thought the Lucid Air EV also uses straight cut gears and mentioned it in a Lucid owners forum because the Lucid also has a lot of motor whine. But I'm not sure about that though to be honest.

Energica are loud, too. You can hear them from a block away through buildings. And they call my Zero quiet, but I tried running it while on the test stand and I just couldn't bear it without hearing protection. Weirdly, you basically can't hear anything at 90mph but it must be making all that noise when on the street,

Aside the belt groan, the Cybertruck sounds like a bigger, muted version of my Zero. My Zero, in the forest, sounds alot like a stat wars speeder bike if you're standing aside the road with the doppler shift and phasing in and out of the plane of the motor.

Yes agreed. Thank you so much for your reply. It sounds pretty good imo and sounds like the Cybertruck but less muted and also a bit higher pitched than the Cybertruck too. Kind of reminds me of a Formula E car.

I personally wish that the motor whine and powertrain sounds of the Cybertruck can be heard from the outside a little too and that would be cool because then anytime someone heard that sound they'd know a Cybertruck went by. But of course, that would have its drawbacks because it would probably be noisy and unbearable for some Cybertruck owners in the cabin.

The motor whine and powertrain sounds of the Cybertruck particularly the Cyberbeast while accelerating, decelerating, and at a constant speed sounds to me like the whoosh sound a car makes on a highway even when the Cybertruck is not on one.

I hope someone talks to Tesla engineers about the Cybertruck powertrain noise so they can give us more information and context about what contributed to making that noise and a lot of other things about the noise personally.

We'll probably hear it more when we see it doing stuff with the quieter highway tires.

Those big tires and doing stuff where it's slipping is just going to overwhelm any motor whine,

Where can I order a jet whining and a boom similar to piercing the sound barrier?

Exactly, that is what I felt too. In the carwow Cybertruck race videos you could hear the Cybertruck a bit from the outside. And in the more recent Cybertruck videos with the owned Cybertrucks, the loud tire noise drowns any chance of hearing the motors from the outside.

I wonder if the Cybertruck is one of the production vehicle evs with the loudest motor noise made. Other than the Cybertruck, Rivians and Lucids have a lot of motor whine too. The Hummer EV does too but its masked by tire and wind noise due to not enough sound proofing and fake noise in the cabin, which I personally dislike because I always love to hear the motor whine in evs and not tire and wind noise. The Hummer EV sounds similar to Cybertruck in carwow's race so maybe that also uses straight cut gears too. They both make almost the same sound while accelerating and an audible hum at higher speeds from the outside. The aptera which is a solar car three wheeler also has a loud and distinct motor whine as well.

The motor whine for both awd and cyberbeast cybertrucks while accelerating, decelerating, and a constant speed sound more unique and a little different from at least most other evs that I've listened to.

One of the most noticeable things in the Cybertruck and particularly the Cyberbeast is the motor whine. You don't hear that much motor whine in the model s, 3, x, and y which make little to no noise from the motors. The Cybertruck, however, has a decent amount of noise from the motors and I actually like it. There is a lot of motor noise while accelerating and decelerating, and also while cruising at a steady speed a little. Wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this motor noise in the Cyberbeast. What does it sound like to you, remind you of, and do you think they did anything different with the Cybertruck motor to make a louder sound than the s, 3, x, and y motors?

In this video you can hear the motor whine of the Cybertruck Cyberbeast a little while accelerating and decelerating.

And in this video you can hear the motor whine at a constant speed in most of the video.

While I have not been in the CyberBeast, I do have a AWD CyberTruck. The sound is very much like the sound my Maytag Early Front Loading Washing Machine, which also sounds like a Jet Engine. Perhaps Tesla is using Maytag Motors? :)

Yes. I like the Cyberbeast sound better but AWD also sounds nice too. Maybe they are using Maytag Motors. Thank you so much for pointing that out. That is definitely an interesting speculation. I wish that Sandy Munro or any of the automotive engineering people who talk to Tesla could ask them what manufacturer motors they use or if they manufacture their own. That is definitely something I am greatly wondering about right now.

And according to the votes, one person has ridden in a Cyberbeast! Wow! And so far spaceship seems to be the most votes.
