The reason that people like the sound of a V8 is because they associate it with speed and fun driving. There’s nothing inherently pleasant about that noise. If your refrigerator made that noise you’d be on the phone with the appliance repair company.

If people are young, they’ll quickly associate speed and fun driving with the hum of an electric motor. If they’re old or have a neophobia personality they probably never will. I’m sure when cars first came out some people always missed the smell of horse poop and the sound of clomping hooves and others quickly learned to love cars.
Actually, they hired young kids to shovel the horse poop into dung hills. Then the kids and their friends played "King of the Mountain" on top of it. They had no place to play once ICEs came along, hence their second choice of playgrounds. Facts can be ugly things!

I know that a lot of gear heads love the loud sounds of a tuned ICE. In one of the new member threads I also saw someone mention that:

Personally, I do like the sound but under normal circumstances I actually prefer the relative silence of BEVs.

I really like the idea of being able to drive into the neighborhood at night without waking up the neighborhood. Or to drive through the backwoods and not scare off the wildlife.

But there are even tail pipe modifications people fo to “enhance” the sound of their vehicles.

Are you going to miss the sound of your ICE vehicle? Are you excited by the silence of BEVs? Are you going to enhance your CT to add some sound?

A while back I was thinking it would be cool to have the sounds of horse hoofs on cobblestone that would go from walking to galloping as the speed of the vehicle changed.

And I remember EM making some comment about enhancing BEVs with some jazz music so that blind people would know you were coming.

Anyway, what do y’all want?
Wouldn’t this be like putting a Mattel Varoom motor on it?

I drive a V8 6.7L F350 super duty diesel every day for nearly 130 miles.

I won't miss engine noise at all.

I thought since around 2012 engine/exhaust sounds were augmented by manufacturers. Therefore, most of the growl and rumble has a fake component to it. So piping a desired sound into the cabin of the CT while you are driving would be just as acceptable. Leaving the outside sound as quiet as possible, right. Pretty soon, traffic noise may be nothing more that tire on pavement sounds.

I'll put a Harley muffler sound on my CT-with a train/ship horn or maybe a wolf's howl for the horn - hehehe.

I stopped thinking engine noises were cool when I reached manhood. So, that was when I was about 32.

Get me a mod for my cybertruck that makes it sound like a TIE fighter though, and we'd be on to something.

I'm in the mixed camp on this one. I'll miss the sounds of certain engines, but not others.

Two of my cars have a v10, one of my cars has a 900 hp v8, and one of my trucks has a supercharged v8. Those sounds are a big part of the enjoyment for me and would be missed if replaced by an EV.

However, when it comes to my daily drivers, the sounds offer no benefit. My trucks just sound like trucks and the cars barely make a sound, so those wouldn't be missed and I'd welcome the silence of an EV.

Electric cars do make some noise and I think when the EV performance world really takes off, you'll hear different/louder EV sounds in the future which will then be associated with performance and result similar enjoyment among enthusiasts.
