The thieves were so incredibly stupid, they didn't even think to cover their face and license plate. Annoying that they didn't have a front plate!
Why would they? Less than $950 stolen and it’s a misdemeanor.

I’ve never owned a Honda. But I’m pretty sure a Civic doesn’t cost $120,000 and I’ve never heard anybody boast about how apocalypse proof Honda Civics are. ?

My Cyberbeast has a lot going for it, but Tesla (mainly Elon) needs to learn how to under-promise and over-deliver instead of doing it bass ackwards.
I do not recall him promising that there would be no way to get into the Cybertruck, and Tesla has certainly made it more difficult than most other cars.

Well, maybe not stupid but brazen because you know...lack of consequence on their part. ?

Auto Burglary is a 'wobbler' in CA, can be charged as a Felony or Misdemeanor.

Value of property taken isn't an element of the crime. The vehicle has to be locked, and the intent of entering is to commit theft or another felony.

Now, whether or not the local DA charges it as a felony vs misdemeanor is another matter, haha!!

What if the touchscreen (instead of the owl) displayed a cropped full screen photo of the person looking inside so they can see themselves (and know you see them too)?

Number 1: Sentry mode was enabled on the CyberTruck. That is where the video was obtained from. The last 10 minutes of video were saved from the incident moment.

Number 2: The alarm system of the CyberTruck requires forced entry from the door to activate the horn, alarm, etc. Sentry mode is silent. Read the manuel.

"The vehicle security system activates when Cybertruck does not detect an authenticated phone or key and:
  • A locked door is opened
  • The locked tailgate is opened
  • The powered front trunk is opened
When your vehicle detects this, the siren sounds, headlights and turn signals flash, and you receive a notification on your mobile app that the security alarm is triggered. To deactivate the alarm, press any button on the mobile app or tap your key card against the card reader located on the driver's side door pillar."

Number 3: The theives were apparently in a stolen car and could not restart the car easily after letting it die. For God's sake listen to the video of the officer talking to the CyberTruck owner as they watch the Sentry video.

Number 4: The *Extract Mode" comment and idea is on point. I do it when I park not with an eye to preventing break-in, but, to prevent people from pressing up against my window looking inside and leaving sweat stains all over the side and on the glass. It would have made it more difficult to look inside for these guys and certainly discouraged the event.

Number 5: Finally, I'm becoming very disappointed in this forum. Once upon a time it was just the people who reserved a CyberTruck, were excited to receive their CyberTruck, were showing their wraps, wheels, and ideas for customizing their CyberTruck. Were helping to trouble shoot issues with their CyberTruck or providing information on how to deal with Tesla. Currently, I'm watching it fill with "Trolls", "Haters", and some of the "Dumbest" people with a keyboard and internet connection I've ever seen.

why on earth did the sentry alarm not go off? And don't say sentry wasn't on because if it wasn't how does he have the video?

well this is just dumb, you can do whatever you want to the vehicle and the alarm won't go off unless you open a door?

Door, tailgate and frunk. I do agree that Tesla should update the Alarm to include window and Sentry Mode to include an immediate notification to your phone of Sentry being triggered so I can see what is going on?

Does sentry mode not play full volume music on CT like it does on the other cars?

It's probably already been said but if someone really wants into a vehicle, they will get in.

This is why it's important to leave valuables out of sight. In a glove box, in the vault, or even hidden under a seat.

Does this completely prevent theft? no. But even a smart thief will consider risk vs reward.

A vehicle parked in dark area with a valuable visible, or even something that is likely to contain valuables like a backpack/purse, will be more likely to be robbed than a vehicle in a brightly lit area that doesn't have anything visible.

Obviously this will vary. If you have a phone left on the seat, someone might break in even in a parking lot in the middle of the day. Or just having a nice car might have a thief break in just to check the glove box or trunk.

Even the vault isn't 100% secure. I plan on securing a lockbox in the vault for valuables. nothing is 100%, but if something is obviously going to take a significant amount of time to break into, they might just leave or spent so much time that they are caught in the act.
