Tips for cleaning the sides of the vault?

I had the same problem, I went to the auto parts store and purchased back to black a spray took care of the problem. Let me know how it works out for you.

yup, usual black plastic issue, looks powdery on top
my favorite for this is the Chemical Bros Tire and Trim Gel
the absolute best, have to reapply but much less frequent and Ive tried them all

You really need to clean and prep first before using any kind of dressing / restoration product. Learned this the hard way.

My sides looked similar to yours before they saw an All-Purpose Cleaner and a lot of scrubbing with a microfiber towel. I used an interior one (Car Guys Super Cleaner) because its what was closest to me at the time, but a stronger true APC would have been better.

It probably doesn't need a restoration product, but after cleaning off the stains you could dress it with something like Carpro Perl, or if you're feeling fancy, a ceramic like Cquartz DLux or Gtechniq C4. Personally I just use Perl since it's gonna get used and abused. I did the tailgate and sides in the aforementioned manner and they came out great. You reminded me I still need to do the floor of my bed.

Mine was not as bad as yours but it was bad. I made a video of the solution I found to work.

Had something like this in a couple spots. Just left it alone because I didn’t care about how the vault looks overall. The only protection I use for the vault is a barn stall mat for when I move snow blowers so the blades don’t dig in to the floor while bouncing around. Have pressure washed the vault once in 14k miles.

Maybe try a simple vault open wash and pressure washed after?

Mine was like that it got replaced under warranty. they tried to clean it at service appointment and it would not clean so they replaced it. I put it in app and sent pics.

Our Foundation CT was disappointing dirty upon delivery. They took it back inside to resolve it but it was not cleaned. Could not see clearly out front window from the dirt residue on it . The vault was looking like yours as well. Not impressed with the quality of Tesla service so far and now facing a high voltage error requiring the battery to be replaced with 1300 miles into it.

That's really interesting. I wonder if the service center was using a crap product to prep for delivery.

I could never get ours looking good, tried a few of the products mentioned here. For now I've covered it with Xpel Armor (link, but not a plug, I promise , but I'm due a visit to the SC to take care of the recalls and get my wheel covers, so maybe I'll mention this, since @rharl managed to get them to replace it. Certainly would not be the first time Tesla launches with a certain finish/material, and switches shortly after. Anyone that had an early MY will know about the black trim issue.

I use 303 but if you plan to stick something to it later don't do that ?

I think I’m going to have to push for that. I did an intense cleaning of the whole thing with all purpose cleaner. And then sprayed it all with back to black and nothing worked.
