Anyone run into tire shops that don’t want to deal with Cybertruck tires?

Took my Foundation Series to Discount Tire today after my left rear was down over 10 pounds. They found a small screw in the tread but really didn’t want to take care of it. Said they’d never worked with a Cybertruck tire before and that Tesla tires are “different.” Also said they doubted they could repair the tire and that I would have to leave the truck with them several days while they tried to order a new tire …. If they could find one.

I got the hint: they did not want to deal with it. Surprised me because I’ve bought tires for all my vehicles from Discount for more than 30 years, and there was never a challenge they weren’t happy to handle.

Took it to the Tesla service center, they got me in right away and said it was an easy repair.

EV tires in general, and Teslas in particular, have a foam lining to reduce noise. This alters the patch procedure but any competent tech can handle it.

Apparently, there’s also a sensor on the inner tread surface that excludes a repair when adjacent to the puncture, but the only way to find out is to unmount it.

You might have gotten a bad technician, or just one on a bad day. In these situations I’m tempted to have the manager explain to me why they don’t want to work on Goodyear tires, or American-made vehicles, or are they just afraid of trucks in general? I’d rather avoid the hassle but finding another shop can be a crapshoot.

I've been going to Discount Tire for Tesla tires for years now. I haven't yet been there for my Cybertruck, but I can't imagine they wouldn't fix a tire for me. Sounds like a bad Discount Tire shop. I would personally reach out to their management via email, but that can be a bit of a hassle.

IMO I would try another Discount Tire shop. There are many in your area.
Kirkland Discount Tire has done a good job in providing good service on my CT.

Definitely will try another DT next time I have an issue. Went to this one because it was closest to home and because they always had great service for many years.

I’ve had similar experiences but was able to talk through them. It usually helps when you explain and show where to find jack mode and point out the flat jacking point areas. People are afraid of the unknown but won’t admit what they don’t know and when you make it more known to them that usually resolves the issue.

Discount Tire plugged mine too when I got a nail in it. I have the Pirellis ATM (darn things won’t die). Weird that they turned you down.

I have had three tire stores deny service to Teslas due to their unique foam liners and TPMS. It's not just the CT. The first was a MX, the second was a MY. In the third case they did eventually replace the tire with one I sourced from Discount Tire online, but they made me wait until two days later when the one "Tesla-trained" tech was scheduled to work.

I get it - there's disproportionate liability when working on these wheels and tires because they are a new generation, and many tire shops have experienced claims for damaged wheels, sensors, etc., and many legacy tire changing equipment systems aren't compatible with the foam liners. It's not as though they don't want the business. They are scared of the liability.

I took my CyberTruck to Discount Tire for a slow tire leak. They found a metal rod near the sidewall and ordered a new tire. I had purchased road hazard for the tires and got the tire replaced for free. They've had no problems with puncture repairs on my CyberTruck. They also swapped the OEM tires to new wheels, with no problem. They always have a few Teslas out front waiting for tire repairs.
