My Tonneau cover has never worked perfectly (has been back to the service center once for adjustment). Seems like a non-petroleum / non-silicon based garage-door type lubricant from time to time could make it work a little more efficiently? Can't find anything in Telsa docs that advises against it? Thoughts / suggestions?

Any lubricant good enough for plastic rollers;; if it’s binding however it probably needs to be fixed by service (as mentioned) above. I know it’s a hassle to take it in,but the problem could get worse.

Another vote for having the SC take another look at it.

And, yeah, adding any kind of lubricant is likely to make things worse, not better.

My tonneau (FS AWD, Delivery 05/30/2024, 113xx) has worked perfectly since delivery. Zero issues.

I also vote with take it in again. The electric tonneau is a 'tentpole' feature of the CT. It should work without binding.

It's likely that they are up to a couple of revisions to the mechanism by now. If they change it out, you'll have the latest version.

Good point on revised parts. My replacement is listed as a -D version so 4th version (mid May CB delivery) .

Dang didn’t realize it was open voting season on this forum topic. It’s prolly rigged anyway, can I vote twice?
I’m a go with a service center visit for repair.

Mine was not closing properly, would roll back a foot or so when I tried to close it. Took it to service they said they just cleaned it. When I inspected it looked the same as before but there was definitely a lubricant applied.

Maybe a dry spray lube like what is used for Camper slide-in rooms? But really, it shouldn't need anything.

Dish washing soap (dawn) mixed with water in a spray bottle. Water will evaporate and soap left as a lubricant. Have used this for window for many years.

I have a couple of electric tonneau covers on my Fords. The recommendation from them is to use 303 aerospace in the grooves (it's good for the tonneau cover too in order to prevent UV fading). I don't know if this would apply to Tesla as well, but it's non-grease. Definitely do not use grease as it will gum it up.

At delivery, they were performing the tonneau calibration on my truck. It worked ~80% of the time but sometimes it bounces at the bottom.

I did eventually take it to service, they found the issue and made an adjustment to the track. Worked great while I was at the Service Center. Since then, it's back to 80% lol.
