How secure is the tonneau cover? Asking because about to take a long trip and would like to leave some things in the vault overnight at hotels.

i know it’s lockable, but if someone wanted to do a quick crowbar attempt to pop it open, would they easily succeed?

I imagine of someone wanted, they could wedge a crowbar or pipe and get an arm in there maybe, and then if they knew where the emergency release is and had Stretch Armstrong arms, they could drop the tailgate. It certainly would not be a quick though. There are much easier targets out there for sure.

Agree with above. There is enough room to put a crow bar between the last slat and the tailgate where the seal is. You could then possibly use the tailgate as leverage to pry up the last slat. Then you would have to know how to release the tailgate as that would be the only quick way to get access.

In my mind, the criminal would 1. have to be educated on the design of the truck and 2. motivated to get in.

Right now, most people are not educated on the design. So, when you get where you are going, maybe don’t show off the inside contents to add motivation.

I’m also now wondering if the emergency latch would trigger the alarm when the truck is locked?

I wouldn't leave anything in the vault while staying in the skech area. i probably just open the touneau cover overnight to show nothing in there. repairing the broken touneau cover would be much more expensive.

Thanks for the feedback.
We definitely won’t leave anything of an expensive nature small enough to bring in. But sometimes we haul some miscellaneous things like small furniture we’re giving to our daughter and her family.
We don’t stay in sketchy areas, but you never know for sure where trouble may strike. That’s why I’m wondering if it’d be safe to load stuff like that.
We used to haul all kinds of stuff in a Dodge Caravan and leave it parked overnight. I guess they could have tried to break into it as well. I just wonder if the truck bed tonneau cover would be more enticing. But I think a lot of today’s action is smash (break a window) and grabs, and this would probably take more effort as you guys are pointing out.
Would it alarm? I wonder … I’ll have to see what else I can find out; now as much out of curiosity as anything. Totally unfamiliar with any alarm system it has.

It would also set off the alarm.

There's a certain amount of rooting around that thieves won't do. And leaving it open won't prevent damage, either. If they're going to damage it, they will.
