Unfortunately, I personally know Tesla low balls trade ins compared to others like Carmax and the like. You're better off selling the car on your own or through Carmax, carvana, etc.

But are you better off?
Maybe not if you need to rent an interim vehicle.

If you need an interim vehicle, you're better off renting from someone with lower overhead, yourself.

Regardless, there is a cost to any alternative.
The rental car, mileage added to your second vehicle, bum a ride from a colleague, have your wife drives you to work, or hijack her car and she walks the kids to school, etc..
There is a cost.
Is that cost less than a Tesla same-day trade-in? ?‍
The Tesla algorithm has clearly shown they think people are willing to accept a lower trade-in value for a no-hassle transaction. YMMV

Tesla is hoping convenience will take priority over trade in value. Tesla is notorious for low balling trade in values.
