Have any of you heard anything about no longer receiving a trade-in offer until you have a VIN?

It’d be wise of them to do that, because the trade in offer is “only good for 1,000 miles”.
It’d be smart of them to do that for the financing step as well.

It's also only good for 30 days.

I had initially heard if you get a trade in value it means they think your truck is close, but based on mine expiring in 2 days, and not having a vin yet, I'm gonna go ahead and say no. They don't know anything when they give you a trade in value. The app tells you hurry and do it so your delivery isn't delayed, but it doesn't actually mean anything in terms of delivery time.

I was just as the service center getting a seat issue looked at. While there I stopped by sales and they said they do think trade ins estimates are being held until you have a VIN.

If they are actually doing that, it's new within the last month. I would take what they say at service centers with a grain of salt though. Someone said they were told to charge to 100% every week (which is LFP guidance).

Some seem to be willing to look up build dates for those of us without vins, some pretent it's impossible to do. Some will ping vehicles in transit, some won't.

Most of them seem to know nothing more than we do here, and the ones that do know anything seem to be tight lipped about it.

I'm a FS Order 12/8 for a Cyberbeast, haven’t had a VIN assigned but all payments arranged with a trade in already offered by around 12/15. (It even showed Tesla was going to owe me money on the final payment because of the trade in) That has a come and gone and now I'm being asked to set up another trade in and reconfirm data.

I would say its most likely a correlation biased - VIN assignment is based on a set of variables we just don't know and/or understand.

You are right…. So little is known and that’s what’s causing so much confusion.

If they are holding off on trade in offers it must be really new practice. My original trade offer expired on February 4th. I resubmitted on February 6th and with a few days had another offer. I’m also still waiting for a VIN BTW. Order placed on 12/21 in Cali.

I put in the trade-in info around 1/20, I asked my Tesla rep about it last week on 2/9. He told me he would push it through after I'm issued a VIN# since it's only good for thirty days. Good on him because I didn't realize any of that since this is my first Tesla vehicle.

Tesla just back to me in a text - no need to reapply for financing until the VIN is assigned. ??

FYI, you cannot subtract the tradein value for tax purposes in CA, so even if you trade your old car in with Tesla you WILL pay taxes on FULL vehicle price.

I called Tesla and said that I didn't want to go through the trade in and financing stuff for my Beast until the VIN is assigned. My logic was the trade in value would no longer hold and I'd hate to be locked into a rate when they will potentially move downward by "mid-late 2024." Tesla rep said not completing these steps now wouldn't delay the delivery process, that I could wait until closer to delivery. Hopefully they aren't wrong, that's where I stopped my process.
