User Interface for Steering Wheel Controls Is NOT Well Done

Would you like Tesla to add alternative options for turn signal controls?

Of course hope this helps.

Press and hold the left scroll button, you can either assign it to one of the functions, (such as drive mode) or set it to ask each time (if you want the options) you can change this in car menu->display-> scroll wheel function
I will check this out. But that sounds like it must be actuated by the left scroller, and you cannot assign it to the right scroller, which currently does nothing if you're not in FSD? Am I understanding that correctly?

Regardless, it's very nice to have that option and thank you so much for giving me something to check out! Much appreciated!

I use FSD so I rarely have to use the wheel or turn signals. 😬

Just saying….

But as others have suggested/ drive more often to train yourself and use the left wheel to change drive modes.

Correct- this is for the left scroll wheel. Right side is for FSD controls (again similar to cruise control toggles for legacy vehicles)

Again, it's not a problem to use it. It's a preference to have another option.

It's a very strange thing. There are many things I do NOT prefer. I don't like green cars for example, but I would never say, not only should cars not be green, but no one should have the option to get a green car. I'm fine with saying, green cars are not for me, but I'm happy for those that prefer that and can get that option.

But some have the view, if they dont like it or dont want to use it, then they think no one else should be able to do so or have that option, which I find strange. Then again, to each their own view.

So after driving the truck, which I love, the controls on the steering wheel are just not thoughtful.

Turn signals should be on a turning stalk, full stop. Just like Elon was wrong on the Yoke, he's wrong on the stalk.
I've owned and daily driven the CyberTruck since April 2024 and I completely disagree with this statement. I love the turn signals being exactly where they are. I never have to move my hand to signal, I just reach over with my thumb, it's awesome. I would be very annoyed if they went back to a turn stalk in the CT like they did in the Model 3 / Y.

The issue with being able to change necessary safety (and legally mandated) controls to an alternate scheme is that you break expectations for other drivers. Granted, this is not an issue most of the time, but if someone had to drive your vehicle in an emergency and didn't know how you remapped the controls, it would be a problem.

Point taken on the stalk vs. buttons, for this very same reason. I prefer the turn signal buttons myself, as I think it keeps with the spartan look of the cabin, but it did take a little time to build new muscle memory. Nearly every other car on the road works in a specific way with a stalk, it's effectively a standard we're all accustomed to and need no training or thought to use.

I went out of town last week and rented a Jeep Wagoneer for a few days, and let me tell you, the controls were abysmal. I sat there in the Enterprise parking deck staring at the million buttons on the dash with unintelligible hieroglyphs, looking for the damn gear shift. Guess who thought it would be a great idea to put the gear shift on a freaking horizontal dial in the middle of the center console? I'd like to punch that designer in the face, metaphorically speaking. Made me REALLY appreciate the thoughtfulness in Tesla's interface.

Not really an issue on the tesla as guest drivers would get a default and each driver can have their preference set up. No different than you changing the option on the left scroll wheel IMO.

I do hit the wrong button occasionally. I say keep the buttons but physically differentiate them more, such as making one convex and one concave.

Also, the “clicker” audio should be slightly different between left and right, so that I can can an audible feedback.

Sure....I will be happy to trade your Cybertruck squircle wheel for my 2026 Model Y steering wheel + turn signal stalk.

Turn signal stalks suck!

Well they didnt flip back because losing the stalk was met with majority much less universal delight. No doubt some people prefer it, and I totally believe you do.

Personally, I do not. And I think the up down buttons with no physical differentiation are a particularly bad implementation. i'd be curious if they tried something more physical on the wheel like some rocker. But as it stands, while I'm fine using the buttons, stalk is better IMO. Obviously YMMV.

How long have you had your truck? Even if coming from gas, I’d be surprised if you’re over a month in and still want a round steering wheel and a stalk. This system is redonkulously superior in every way. If they offer button options for people stuck in the past, whatever. I won’t change mine. If they ever put a stupid stalk in future models, I’ll lose my mind.

This poll is kinda designed to get a negative response since there are no 'other' options other than 'no'.
