V4 Supercharger 14% to 56% Test - 15 minutes!

I just read an article the other day where someone was comparing the charging speeds of some vehicles and they used a CT as one... Against vehicles with batteries as small as 50 kWh!! Well DUH! Of course a vehicle like he Ioniq 5 with it's 63 kWh battery is going to charge (from 10-80% in 24 min.) much faster than a CT with 123 kWh that takes 35 minutes... Because THE BATTERY IS BIGGER!!

Just like all those ones that talk about charging from 0-100%... WE of course all know that you are likely NOT going to charge to 100% unless you're about to leave home on a trip somewhere and, like me, want to START with a 'full tank' charged up from home because it's cheaper!

Other stories talk about how much MORE it costs to charge a CT than it does a Chevy Bolt or VW or such... Come on!!

If you're going on a trip, just tell the nav system you are interested in getting there faster (more charging stops, but shorter ones) or with as few stops as possible... Again, EVs require a bit of thinking differently about their 'fuel'...

I save a TON of time from NEVER having to go to the gas station like I used to have to do twice a week! Now it's about 20 seconds per day to plug/unplug at home, but nobody seems to REALIZE that particular time saver...

I'm not really sure why so many people are testing the faster chargers starting at 10-15% to start with. You aren't going to get max current at these levels, just like you haven't been able to get it in the cars on a 250kW charger.

By around 20%, a car is going to drop to V2 levels of 150kW or less.

Incorrect. The fastest yet has been ~17% plug in and 325kW at 22%. The CT is capped right now at 875amps (may go up 1-2 of using climate) and seems to be a boost profile below 25% and after so much time the truck throttles below 800.

Then what do you get, and for how long at 5%?

It’ll be 875 amps x whatever voltage the pack is at split at the percentage. I believe 5% is ~360v so 315ish. The how long is still being determined… seems <4 minutes and maybe <3. It is a very short boost above 800 amps. Which could be a number of factors causing that. The CT on a 1000v charger doesn’t have this behavior when the amperage is below 500.

They need to make the Supercharger cords just like 1-2 inches longer so it's easier to charge cybertruck. On a trip I had to backup a little more nearly every time but our Model Y it was no problem.

I wouldn't say the word much. Longer yes. Stiffer is where I would use the word much.

Just finished using my first v4 and it certainly felt much faster to me. I only got through 3 games of Vegas style solitaire!

It nice to know I could charge fast for long trip, but I sure don't want to charge like this every times since I use supercharging frequently. I prefer the slowest one (72kWh Supercharger), for the long life of my battery. I am planning to keep my CT long as I live.

Supercharging won't shorten the life of your battery.T

Tesla has more battery data than anyone in the industry and they manage charging to prevent degradation. The real-world data shows that batteries with 90% Supercharging have no more degradation than batteries that were charged at home 90% of the time.

Laboratory testing does not equal the real world.

Turn the rear camera on, just hit the steering wheel button and it's easy to backup to within just a few inches.
