I hope they hire some security to patrol the area. So annoying.

Tesla may have a few problems.

The protest movement currently engulfing many cities across the country is heavily anti-capitalism and what better symbolism of capitalism is there at the moment than Tesla.

Also, the UAW has a bone to pick with Tesla. They've been trying to unionize Tesla for quite some time without success.

The construction of the Tesla factory could become a target with protests and even vandalism and sabotage of the construction equipment.

Austin is very Left-leaning and this will be a dilemma for them. Do they support the protesters(and UAW) or Tesla?

I am at wit's ends to even guess how it will all play out.
I work in the heart of Portland Oregon, which seems to be the epicenter of the protests at the moment. While it’s true that the majority of the protestors are not fans of capitalism, so far the targets of their protests and vandalism has mostly been government buildings. Nike’s world HQ is just a few miles west and there’s been zero protests there. Intel is a few miles further west and nothing there either.

We shall see. I do think these current protests in Portland will not stop anytime soon. They might last into November. And if Trump gets re-elected my city might burn to the ground.

I read that it's already happened at the German site, where courts have upheld some tree-huggers' suit to stop construction. (And I couldn't even see any trees in the overhead shots.)

But there's nothing to worry about. First, there was a report that the Texas plant will preserve the few trees in place. Second, we're all about to die from COVID anyway. Third, Elon can modify one CT model into a hearse variant.

Which, if I may go off-topic for a moment, reminds me of:

Tapped my cab driver's shoulder to tell him a better route. He went bonkers, nearly crashing. He apologized and explained it was his first day as a cabbie. What did he do before? "I drove a hearse."

I was able to get some decent drone footage of the site this evening of the site excavation. It looks as if they are already moving extremely fast for just 1 week of work (Elon mentioned on Wednesday during the earnings call that they actually began construction over the weekend). A few things of note:
  • This turned into a totally unplanned thing and I literally spent all night actually putting together footage into a somewhat presentable video, created a logo, and a youtube site quickly (mainly so it would be faster for future videos). I worked on it until I fell asleep in my chair a little after 5am and after getting 5hrs or so of sleep, I finished it up and it's now up at the link at the bottom of this post.
  • I can now see why Elon called this an 'ecological paradise' as you can see extreme care is being taken even during excavation to leave a lot of the existing trees and foliage and these for sure will be implemented into the design of the entire facility.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if there were several main buildings given the unique layout of the land and as you can see, many different trails that the equipment has already created, obviously for specific reasons.
  • Lastly, this is actually a pretty difficult area to get drone footage due to the major power transmission lines running directly through the middle of the site on one side, and Austin Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA), just a few minutes down the highway on the opposite side of the factory. These 2 issues cause intermittent interference, tons of air restriction warnings, and geofencing where DJI software used to control the drone won't allow it to proceed and automatically reroutes the drone whenever it gets about halfway to the southernmost end of the site (the end where the near highway traffic is approaching from/towards the airport).
  • Lastly, I just want to get this first set out quickly and I'll be working on a side project for a more professional presentation for future pictures and videos. Hope everyone enjoys as this place is going to be amazing!

Boom Dawg... you rock!

Thanks for this stunning video, I’m about 30 minutes away and was thinking of doing this very same thing. You are a much better editor than I.

Saw the video today, nice footage. I just found this site today through Now You Know on youtube.
I ordered the Cybertruck this month puts me out to like 650000 and October 2023 to receive the truck. I guess it gives me plenty of time to save up for it.

As far as I can tell, literally everyone I know is behind this and wants it to succeed, even those that are not Tesla fans. The only opposition I've heard of were the people arguing against it representing the UAW and those who generally hate l and/or don't understand why some companies negotiate with cities for incentives packages and are always think these companies are getting a "handout".

It's as if the latter group thinks that areas that have had ZERO development in the for years or were deemed too difficult or expensive will just start adding money to the local economy out of thin air.

I don't really see any issues arising to be honest. People around the area are definitely seeing it's as another employment option and are excited about it.

perhaps, but I don’t mind the wait, allows enough time to work out the bugs...hopefully ?
