So, if you’re thinking about buying a CT, chances are you’ve already gone down the rabbit hole of Google and YouTube — and been hit with a wall of negativity. Some of it’s fair, but honestly, most of it is just noise.

I've respect for tier-1 media like The New York Times, WSJ, Washington Post, CNBC, BBC, and well may be for CNN (and well some… Fox News too). When CT launched just about two years ago, they were all hyped about it. Lately, they’ve stuck to reporting on sales numbers, which I actually think is fair. But what bothers me is that Google search results are now littered with obscure sites and wannabe YouTubers making wild claims about why no one should buy a Cybertruck. When I read and watch these, it pisses me off.. that I'm here to talk about it :)

Here’s the thing: I own one. I drive one. And I’ve lived with it. So let me clear a few things up.

The “Reasons Not to Buy” (and My Take)
1. “Sales are falling in FY25.”
Yes, technically true. But zoom out: sales of all cars over $100K are down almost 46% compared to last year. This isn’t a Cybertruck problem; it’s a market reality.

2. “The design is ugly.”
This one always makes me laugh. For every person who doesn’t get it, there’s another who absolutely loves it. Kids, in particular, lose their minds when they see one — pointing, smiling, shouting “Cybertruck!” That kind of instant recognition? Priceless.

3. “It’s not a real pickup truck.”
And thank God it isn’t. I never wanted a traditional pickup. But since getting CT, I’ve hauled gardening supplies, bikes, furniture — all the stuff of everyday life. For me, it makes sense. It redefined what a “truck” could be.

4. “You can’t load from the side.”
True. But that’s the tradeoff for its aerodynamic design. If you’re in construction and constantly need side access, it might not be your truck. For the rest of us? Pull it in from the back and you’re good.

5. “Insurance companies are dropping CT.”
Flat-out false. At least not where I live in California.

6. “Insurance is crazy expensive.”
It’s the same as any $120K vehicle. More than a Civic? Sure. But that’s like comparing a Swiss watch to a Casio.

7. “It has too many recalls.”
Nope. Check the stats — Ford, GM, Mercedes all recall more vehicles than Tesla.

And that’s usually where the critics run out of steam.

So why I Love Mine
  • Built like a tank (but sleek). Dooms day device
  • 5-star safety gives me peace of mind.
  • Performance: can smoke a Porsche, handle an off-road trail, and still move my furniture.
  • Technology: It’s not just ahead — it feels like it’s from the future - as a technologist, I will describe it more as a platform than a vehicle.... steer-by-wire, off-roading enabled by over the air updates
  • Vibes: Every drive is an experience. People stare, kids cheer, and it feels like I’m part of something new.
People calling CT a “failure” right now are rushing to judgment. It’s barely two years old. For me, it’s been everything I hoped for — a car that’s fun, functional, and a little bit rebellious.

If you’re already a CT owner, drop your thoughts below — I’d love to know if your experience lines up with mine. And if you’re on the fence, don’t let clickbait headlines make the decision for you.

My last 3 trucks I had to put my foot on the tire to get into the side and haul myself up, just to look, lift a hand… how precarious…

Lot of ignorance out there, many people don’t even know there is a 6ft bed. Gotten too many “WTF really!!?” Lmao. Apparently marketing needs to be beefed, too much ignorance over information on the internets

Everything you have said is accurate except for the "Tier 1" news - a bit laughable but I just prefer to read then be told how to think.
Side loading I do it all the time with ride height set to high, so I imagine if you lower the truck (for people that are only 6' tall) should be possible, short guys, please just get a Chevy. We don't need small penis stigma attached to the cybertruck 🤣.

Definitely my favorite thing is when blue haired mothers get upset when their kids get excited to see my Cybertruck rolling down the road.

Our CT has been fantastic and everything we had hoped it would be! In terms of being a failure, I wouldn’t use that terminology, but when Elon Musk went to Washington DC and did what he did, and extremists on the other side started damaging CTs and harassing owners, it instantly killed a large percentage of potential sales. Many owners and their friends and families became legitimately concerned, with certain feelings of buyer’s remorse even in our own family. Very few who are considering buying a family vehicle buys into that sort of mess. Almost nobody. (Things have calmed way down, but the damage has been done…😔)

Yeah the side loading thing is a complete myth. The CT adds a few inches to the sidewall - mostly toward the cab, but it also sits several inches lower than other trucks with its air suspension on low. If you can't reach over the CT side, you can't reach over almost every other truck, either.

This is bar far the best description that I have read anywhere.

All of it is “true”… depending on perspective..

it’s up to the individual to use their frontal lobe in deciphering the different pieces of propaganda.

Who loads things over the side? It would have to be something REALLY light weight, either that or you need some SERIOUS arm strength... Way easier to just put it in through the back... If it's just something smallish then it goes in the Frunk or in the back seat area...

But yeah, Tesla DOES need to start ADVERTISING!!

With Ford, GM and Toyota all spending around 3 BILLION EACH every year, it's no wonder they get more sales... Tesla spends about 6-7 million... yeah, million... So, they are being outspent by a HUGE factor!!

I would LOVE to see Tesla get some great ads out there showing off how much the Cybertruck CAN do just to shut the naysayers down... Maybe even a 'series' of ads about the "Myths" as well... You know, they could start with:
Myth #1 - You can't take your Cybertruck to the carwash or it will catch on fire! (seriously?? But people BELIEVE IT!! I have had people tell me that even and when I ask where they heard it, of course they can't remember) - then Show "Car Wash Mode" while explaining that it has NOTHING to do with fires!
Myth #2 - It's not a REAL truck - boy could we all have fun with THIS one!

And so on and so on...

If they spent just $10 million on a campaign specifically for the CT, sales would start going back up quickly... Especially if they show all the KIDS grinning at them!! You would be surprised what kind of influence KIDS have when it comes to buying a vehicle...

This is a great post. I was thinking of making something similar. I have had my truck for around 3 months and almost every single youtube video was a year old and was all hate. I went from a 2023 Raptor and this is by far the best vehicle I have ever had and it just keeps getting better. Bottom line If you are someone looking at this forum trying to determine if you buy or not I say go for it as long as you can afford it.

My buddy said after returning from a week in Austin, Tell me your not gonna get one of those ugly things, I was just getting used to your Tesla car. (I've had for 4 yers). I replied with "Yes, as soon as I can",. My other buddy said they are "butt" ugly. When I showed up 3 months later with my CT, they couldn't get over how cool it looked,. said it was "chick magnet". they liked everything about it. It was an opportunity to tell them all the advantages of a Tesla. And I haven't even told them yet that it powered the house a couple of weeks ago when the power went out. It was a lot easier than dragging out the not so portable generator and hooking up to the 100 gallon propane tank.
