Most people won’t have a point of reference. I say about the same as a nice high performance pickup truck with tech options. If they know Ford I tell them about the same a an F-150 Lariat. Then you pay for things like home charging, home power sharing for battery backup, and you can pay extra for other upgrades. Home charging saves you 67% on charging, and home power sharing costs less than a Generac. All that is well understood in Texas where I live. I’ll never share dollar amounts. If they don’t know trucks then anything is too much.

My standard answer is they start at 60 grand depending on what options you get.

it seems to catch people offguard and calm their nerves.

Most responses are “oh wow that’s way more affordable than I thought”

I smile and a drive away
I'ma go wit dat one. Thanks.

Multiple times the first question asked by random people is how much did that cost? How do you guys respond to this. I’m trying to not come off as douchy or snoby. I’ve always driven old ass cars and this is a new world to me.
I speak in terms they are used to from the ICE world. Base is 61k, goes up to 99.9k. Mine is 102k as configured (FSD, etc.).

Good question. I think my response will be “about the same as a Ford Super Duty with comparable options”
... SAD but TRUE

Yes thanks for that brilliant observation. Didn’t know we were dealing in truth here.

Lighten up, Francis. No need to be full bore all the time.
We don't have the slightest clue as to what THEY COULD BUY ONE FOR.

They can get on a waiting list to buy one some future time and price. They might find one on an auction for $200k. They CANNOT buy a cybertruck for the current list price of $79k.

I just give them the expected prices for the base models for next year and explain that it’s currently a bit more for the early release Foundation series which seems to satisfy the curiosity

Yes I’ve been getting asked this a lot. If it’s kids I say “more than $20 less than $1M”, if it’s grownups I say “about $80K”.

Too funny. Yes - quite a conundrum to tell someone the truth on this. "I got shafted for $108k after tax and no EV rebate...and no - my shiny car has no paint job and no spare tire (real good for off roading :)).

Yep, I say they start at $60k but you can configure them up to $120k with all the options. Never had anyone ask anything beyond that but I say Tesla.com has all the details for them to check out.

You’ll need to direct that inquiry to my accountant. Or
If you have to ask, well you obviously can’t afford it.
