Wheel Cover Clip Damage

About to go on a road trip and would like to use my wheel covers but I heard that they can cause damage to the wheels. Anyone have a fix for that?
I thought I might try some vinyl electrical tape on the clips. Anyone think that would help or just make the wheel covers fly off easier?

I don't know, but I can say without a doubt that they do damage the paint on the wheels.

DONT!! throw them away right NOW and never look back… the range impact is very little and not worth it if you want to keep your wheels scratch free. Tesla replaced my wheels under warranty because I bitched about it enough. Others have gotten wheels replaced as well but also some get denied, so just don’t ever put them on and save yourself the trouble…

And then brake dust, dirt, salt and grime get between the tape and the contact points to scratch the wheels.

I would only put them on if you plan to keep them on from now on. As others said, they'll definitely mark up your wheels.

I personally haven't seen a difference in range/efficiency in using them. Not saying there isn't one, just that it doesn't seem to be significant enough that I noticed. I really like the looks of them, BTW, which is why I run them now.

I like the option on or off. For me, I'll keep them off and in 8-10 years after the wheels are banged up, I can put my covers back on and change up the look with like new covers.

Unpopular opinion but I use mine and the wheels are undamaged. They are marked when I take them off but nothing a wash doesn’t fix.

My 20” core wheels were deeply scratched on obvious contact points after 4k miles on the truck. As orhers have stated, I would keep on permanently or off permenently. Range isn’t a realy huge factor, I think I took a 6% hit when tested without (like 15 miles of range).

I took mine off the FIRST DAY and noticed scratches! I’d never put em back on. However, if I was wanting to, I’d likely try something like PLASTIDIP.

Got tired of dealing with them, I typically assess tire pressure manually 1x per week

I think the act of reapplying the cover also scuffs the rim

I'd probably run with the wheel covers if the truck had been delivered with them installed, but I warmed up to the "naked" look in the months spent waiting for the covers to be available.

Now they're just taking up space in my closet lol

Off, Tesla didn’t want you to keep them on, if that was the case they would have went with Steelies and not powder coated aluminum. Again off!
