Huh? If you are using quality towing gear, everything should fit tightly enough that you don't feel any jolts or jerks when going over road imperfections. If it was jolting/jerking I would want to know about it because that implies something is wrong.
Even if everything is tight, vertical displacements and rotational moments will be less noticeable if spread out over time by a compliant interface.

True, but the geometry of most towing setups is such that the force on the tow ball is relatively consistent. The suspension of the truck damps it just fine.

I mean, where is the problem? Maybe avoid using cheap towing gear built with poor tolerances.

Just wanted to follow up. I still haven’t had an opportunity to long range tow, just some across town stuff. The shocker hitch is really nice. I think most people will be happy with the results and smoothness, but many will get 75% of the benefit with properly clamping their hitch to reduce or eliminate the lash and rattle.

it’s money I would spend again, and I think it will really shine on longer drives, but if your interest is around town utility towing, a standard hitch with a clamp will get you most of the way there.

id do it again, but im getting to a point in my life where im sick and tired of cheap tools and workarounds. This is the way to go if you can swing it, but you can safely tow without it, of course.
