And it wasn’t even that hard. Purchased the film for under 1k and spent a few weeks driving around a junkyard looking, partly wrapped Cybertruck, but now I’m pretty happy. It’s not perfect but it’s also not $7k If you’re thinking about trying it, go for it!

Nice Fangirl! How long did it take? Could it be done in a weekend? By one person?

What was the one or two things that went wrong?

Did you buy it precut? Or ?

I just purchased a huge roll of Vivid from Amazon and cut it myself. The magnets to hold it to the car were essential and someone to help hold the roll while you cut it was super helpful. Otherwise, I did the whole thing myself. Start with the easier, second row doors. Each panel took approx 2-3 hours and I screwed up 2 of them badly enough that I pulled the vinyl off and started over. But still a win in the cost department! I did it over a few weeks, but if you're crazy dedicated, it could be done in a long weekend. I used a cricut to cut the word cybertruck in 2 sections and pieced it onto the tailgate.

@fangirl 's truck looks awesome and I'm happy with how mine turned out. If you're on the fence about wrapping your CT, definitely go for it. That said, If I was to do another one, I'm torn as to if I would do a precut kit or not.

For background, I helped my son wrap his BMW (so I thought the CT would be a piece of cake lol). For that, we bought rolls from Amazon. Doing it ourselves, we had lots of waste and ended up running out 3 times. I think we bought 7-8 rolls by the time we were done. For his car, heating and stretching was the name of the game to cover all the curves. Since we cut it ourselves, we always left several inches of overhang beyond the panels so we always had plenty to wrap around the edge. The downside was it took a lot more vinyl and the inside door jams and backs of the doors, trunk, hood, don't look as pretty (some wrinkles, differing amounts of wrap around, etc.).

With the precut pieces, you only get a couple of mm extra to wrap around the edges. If you screw up and over work the vinyl by heating, shrinking, pulling, etc, its VERY easy to get to the end of the panel and not have enough to wrap around the edge. I had this happen on my first door. I was heating and pulling to ensure no wrinkles which ended up deforming the vinyl to the point it wouldn't fully cover and I had to redo it. Once you get comfortable applying with less heat/stretching, you get wonderful results with tight edge wraps that are all uniform. It also goes much faster. My first door took 2 hours. The last took 15 min.

Either way, its MUCH easier than a traditional car. I did my truck in a single long Saturday. Installers are making a killing on CT by charging the same amount they do for other cars because the labor is sooo much less. Do it yourself.

Looks terrific. Is there any sort of jig available to secure the wrap while it's put in place and stretched ? That would seem easier than trying to do it all by hand while eyeballing it, so to speak.

As an update, my FS CT which was wrecked on the 5th day I owned it had an original repair date with Tesla of October 22, now pushed out to Nov 1 last week. Hoping to get it back and intact sometime next month. We will see.

for the ones that wrapped their own truck, was it vinyl or PPF? I heard PPF is harder to wrap the edges..?

I am new to this forum so sorry if this is redundant. Is there anything you need to do to prepare the stainless before wrapping?

ouch
I used magnet sticks from Amazon to hold the vinyl to the panel until I was ready to start peeling off the backing.
