There's zero chance that Tesla's software will be "banned", since that raises the specter of all the other ADAS systems that will happily mass-murder if misused.

Tesla's original sin is marketing their ADAS as "Full Self Driving" when it is nowhere near that capability.
I wasn’t saying that the government will ban FSD. I was saying that we shouldn’t discount the trouble this asshole can make simply because it can be proven that his video (and all his FUD BS) is contrived.

Of course. It's O'Dowd (Nader etc.) that want FSD "banned", who clearly have access to some potent California weed.

Nothing stopped him from running the ads before he ran for office. You can run ads for anything with you own money. Honestly, the campaign made no sense other than he wanted to collect donations, but you could be a small non-profit easily and he'd already paid to create one.

I put 40,000 miles on my Tesla since I got it just before Thanksgiving, mostly on autopilot, and I have had it randomly stop for no reason due to overcorrection hundreds of times and I still haven't managed to hit a single toddler. In my defense though, those toddlers are squirrely.

Jokes aside though, I swear these people make these videos and bring up these talking points like nobody driving a car normally ever hits anything. Autopilot FSD have proven to be exponentially safer than a normal driver time and time again.
my wife is still getting phantom braking sometimes on her 2019 Model 3....she is now scared to death of the FSD and cruise control

FSD is a different stack build than Traffic Aware Cruise Control. They should act differently.

yea, but it hard to get her to understand.....after driving oil the I-5 around LA and Irvine, she considers everything "auto" to be scary....maybe after a little more use of the system, she will become more at ease.

Yeah.

I know my mom is starting to react more when I have to act on some idiot on the freeway - and that's what TACC is trying to do. And that's what it is - basically letting someone else drive. If you're the least bit touchy about it... well...

FSD hasn't been fully integrated with Autopilot yet, so if you have FSD, it still uses the old TACC stack on the freeway.

Those with FSD are at the sharp end of change.

One day, people will wonder how we ever managed without it.

I'm a bit confused. This guy ran for a political office, to enable him to run hit piece ads against FSD. How is it possible/legal to run these ads after the election?

The other thing that sticks out to me, is that he got almost 75K votes. By running an anti-Tesla campaign.
I’ve said it before, the long knifes are out for Elon Musk.

I don't think is just issue of running ads.

I think by being a political candidate he can

1. Make slanderous claims as a politician and be more difficult to sue or at least having little chance of losing suit to pay damages.

2. Get more free coverage by the press as news article instead of being an ad.
People pay a little more attention to news stories than they do ads.

3. More interviews by media.

4. Easier to get donations to fund his slanderous claims. If candidate did well enough might actual get funds from government.
sad, but true. This guy is wily, need to find a way to hit him in the pocket book, like getting the government to stop buying his software.

Lets just say potent weed. I forgot about Nader. I do not understand how he became anti-FSD...it shatters decades of faith in him as an environmentalist. If all this is true then I cannot take him seriously ever again.

He hasn't ever been one, pretty much ever, but notably in the early aughts when he stood against the IPCC's reports and Al Gore.

He's been responsible for alot of ill since the 90s. He was right once, and hasn't ever let us forget it.

We should remember the number of times since that he's been wrong. Which is, alot. He's partly to blame for the W Bush years and the Trump years.

Here's the ad I saw.

This guy, Dan O’Dowd has conflict of interest in spades! According to Fred Lambert from Electrek, The car clearly was not in FSD when testing. It is clear on their video that it was not engaged. What a dick. By the way, I’m guessing by the term Yooper you are from the U.P. Me too. MTU 1980.

St. Ignace and Negaunee. Between You, @Bill906, and I, we'll almost have enough for a CT parade up there.
