I am so done with the big 3 and their engineered obsoleance b$. Just got a quote on replacing a burned out winscreen washer fluid pump (part = $23 @ autozone) for $396.00 lowest quote. The. Entire front bumper must be removed to access it. Americans should be able to repair their owned property, should they not?

My favorite problem on a modern ICE vehicle is sensors. The sensors that are suppose to tell you that there is a problem actually end up being the problem and not what they are trying to sense....

Planned obsolescence and malicious engineering are one of the reasons that I work on cars. It is also the reason I have a love/hate relationship with Ford. Old fords (pre-1980) are relatively inexpensive to work on and still have parts support. However, they are not safe vehicles and REQUIRE defensive driving. Tesla may be an expensive brand and as a corporation does not support DIY willingly. But, if you ask they will sell you parts. What is more important IMHO is their equipment is high quality and abhors planned obsolescence AND malicious engineering.

I had a [box store] employee force my model 3's trunk lid down which bent the drive rod of the actuator. Tesla replaced the actuator but they didn't have the hinge that was bent in the process. After some back and forth with the wrong hinge being provided, I was able to reform the hinge that I had. I have to say that the material quality is good and the metal is stout. The realignment of the actuator, trunk lid, and hinge took me less than 20 minutes. I was able to get the paint code and paint for the replacement hinge (didn't use), the hinge they sent me was inexpensive, and the quality of their parts is high.

TL;DR Tesla is quality and they do help DIY when you ask nicely. Unlike Legacy auto.

They can repair their own property. You have a choice in the matter. Don't choose to go the most expensive asinine route. Go buy the damn part on rockauto.com. I don't know what car you have, but I just checked for my 2007 ridgeline and the wiper fluid pump is literally $15.26. Then go to a non dealership auto shop and have them install the part. You will most likely pay the same in labor as the quote you have just for that part.. but at least your part is only $15. Better yet, if its not something hard to do... buy the damn part and do the repair yourself! Then you are really saving money.

I'm not a mechanic, but I've replaced my alternator, valve cover gaskets, re-lined my headliner, fixed a bunch of interior trim, replaced recalled seat parts, installed a backup camera in the tailgate, replaced decayed old speakers, and many more things on my Ridgeline, with no further experience than looking it up on youtube.

I do not condone this process for something more complicated, ie. replacing worn motor mounts or things like that which require hoisting an engine or disassembling trannies if you don't have the tools or the knowledge.

Why people think they must go through the dealer for repairs is beyond my comprehension. Thats like willingly choosing to hand over three times the actual cost of parts and labor to a manufacturer for the honor of being brand loyal.

Not for me.

I agree, i am mechanically gifted, i am also old and not able to get under a car. Like i said, its just silly to have to pull the 27 '- 7mm bolts, 2 - 10mm, 8 body pins, pull the front bumprr and grill to replace a $4 dc pump. Oh, and my quote is from an independent which ive trusted before and shoots straight. AND, im done buying new cars from the fraud specilist called Dealerships. Ready for my CT.

Itā€™s really important for me to be able to work on my vehicle. This has been a concern of mine going into owning a CT. I bought my Tacoma (best truck ever)in 2001 and Iā€™ve visited a mechanic less then ten times (apart from tires, smog, and alignment). Iā€™m not a mechanic but Iā€™ve done most of the service/repairs myself. So, not including body damage from accidents, what sort of things need to be repaired/serviced on EVā€™s? Are they rolling computers? I donā€™t even own a computer. Is an iPhone a computer? Someone mentioned that Tesla sells parts. Do people that own Teslas fix them if they choose to?

And you absolutely shouldn't. I used to regularly incriminate myself by tearing off those mattress tags. What a feel good moment... I had delivered a blow to "The Man" :). Then, when my $3K Thermopedic mattress had a sagging problem I learned that the tag MUST be on the mattress for the warranty to be honored . No joke....

I've also never gone to a dealership after seeing others get taken advantage of. But the nice thing about owning a Tesla is most maintenance parts don't exist.

But the real question is does your car still work after all the repairs you made?? Lol :p :ROFLMAO:
