So many morons. EVs aren't the answer to all of life's problems, but also, 95% of the "information" against them is made up billshit.

This week it's been: How are you going to charge your EV when a hurricane takes the power out? As if gas stations still work with no power. BUT! Solar still works! Where are you going to get gas for your car if there's no power? Also, everyone with a brain charged their EV to 100% at home. Where you able to fuel up at home before it hit?

Just like in politics and the media, the first amendment allows everyone to lie about anything unless they're under oath (see exceptions below). Usually, individuals can get away with a lot more false or misleading statements than the media but even then, it all depends on a judge if it ever going to court. A lot of your comments under the flaws can be a person's opinion, which I believe is protect speech even when they make ignorant and uninformed statements. As we all know, auto magazines lie constantly about Tesla because they can generally get away with it. If Tesla paid them money (advertising) they might not write crap about them but there's no reason for Tesla to even worry about auto magazine BS because they are selling more eVs than anyone else in the US and Europe and that's all that really matters. The funny thing is the more Mary Barra talks the worse things get for GM.

Some limitations--(not a lawyer, just looked some things up)
Some lies (e.g., perjury, consumer fraud, filing a false police report, forgery) are not protected by the First Amendment.
Protection for even negligent false statements, but not for deliberate false statement, that damage another person's reputation.
There's more but unfortunately the first amendment covers way too much lying.

My renter was complimenting me on my classic vw bus until I told him it was an electric conversion. His response was "why are you going to let them win?" Utah is a very red state but I am still flabbergasted.

As if quieter, faster, less maintenance, and soon to be cheaper aren't separable from California democrats.

There are a LOT of really conservative voters in California, just not a majority. It sounds like there are some progressive voters in Utah (etc) but perhaps not a majority. There are only a few states where the percentages are as high as 70/30. Are there any at 80/20 or above?

I like EVs cause it's charged everyday, and fun to drive. It's that simple.

High EV usage would be *good* for the grid in my area. Most of our power is nuke (also why it's insanely cheap). Nuclear plants can't easily ramp up and down for loads. Charging EVs at night or early morning would just take the surplus we have, because we have to make enough for the daytime loads. The grid is already built for that. And then in Yuma we have the new V4 that is mostly self sufficient for daytime charging.

I can't believe how many people choose to make EVs political. It doesn't surprise me how many diehard Orange Jesus worshippers do, but also people in other political spectrums. Liberals like to. tell me how much child labor was used to make my battery and the environmental damage done for it. Libertarians don't like the government subsidies. Etc.

Personally I kinda dislike the solar and EV subsidies because they end up being a bit of a regressive tax on the poor. But I'm also realistic enough to realize that it's needed if we want to drive change.

Heck, I am very "conservative" and I am all onboard with Tesla and invest in TSLA. I hear a lot of copy cat FUD out there as well. I guess people are longing for the good old days of horse and buggies. People are naturally afraid of what they don't understand. "Put you gold in buggy whips boys, there's a booming trend a coming" mentality.

To answer that question I just tell them I have a whole house capable propane powered generator that is more than capable of powering my house and my EV. I look them in the eye and ask how much fun is it to wait for hours for fuel from the few gas stations that have back-up power and can actually dispense their product. "Why don't you have a gas pump at home and fuel your own truck"

I have personally experienced the fun of hurricanes here on the Gulf Coast and know what works.

You are the one that brought politics into it. I just stripped the party affiliation out. I don’t really think the pro/anti BEV camps are necessarily political. Stupid is stupid.

Unified political opinions on all topics based on "right" or "left" leaning have always been both fascinating and dumb to me. Why are positions on gun control and abortion linked? Makes no sense. Anyway, the right wing position that I find most inconsistent with right wing values is the anti-EV stance. Yes, not all conservatives hate EVs, and not all liberals like them. But there seems to be this block of hardcore righties that just hate EVs and mock them and in some extreme cases key them or damage them. But why? If you are a far-right libertarian an EV is the ultimate FU to dependence on society and government and corporations. No more gas, no more gas tax. Throw some solar panels on your roof, get an EV and f**k the world!

We just had a hurricane in Nova Scotia, too, and I've seen a few anti-EV people mocking EV owners for the old "how to charge" thing with the power out everywhere, but obviously, no one can get gas. It's actually way worse for gas drivers, because they had to wait for power to be restored, and once it was, there was a panic to get gas and all the stations ran out and the lineups went around blocks. EV owners just charged at home when the power came back on and likely had a full battery when it went out.

• EV manufacturing causes more carbon emissions than it will save.
• Your EV is made in China, why do you hate America
• They're so quiet that all pedestrians will be killed.
• Air pollution from EV tire wear is 1000 times worse than ICE tailpipe emissions.
• Our drinking water will be destroyed by all the poisons leeching out of discarded battery packs.
• There is not enough lithium in the world, which is mined by starving children.
• The electric fields will give you cancer.

Elon has said there should be no subsidies for EVs as long as fossil fuel subsidies are removed too.

The first amendment doesn't allow you to lie. If you lie, you're still liable for it.

The first amendment just says that you can dis the government without fear of being locked up. It doesn't help you if your speech stole something, hurt something, violated a court order against you, etc.
