Tesla expanding Fremont 4680 production to a second facility

They are adding 4x the square footage to their Fremont 4680 production. I think they had about 10-15 GWh/ year planned capacity in their existing facility, this will bring their Fremont production up to 50 GWh (eventually).

When this was posted on Twitter Elon “liked” it which is close enough to confirmed for me.


I think this is in addition to the planned 100 GWh capacity in Texas bringing Tesla’s total potential to 150 GWH/ year.

On the call today Musk said ”Most of Tesla is still in California” when asked why he wasn’t spending more time in Austin.

The building isn't new, they've had it since 2015. They make/made seats there if I recall correctly.

I wasn’t sure, the Tweet makes it sound like it’s a new building but I’ll take your word on it.

The important bit is they are getting 4x more square footage for battery production. They can make seats anywhere.

Ahh, Solyndra.

Did you guys know that despite being late, Solyndra did manage to build their product at the target price point?

That's what killed them. Their price point was twice as high for not twice the power when Chinese solar flooded the market.
