Wow. Didn’t take long for hopes to be dashed. MDR really crashed around here.

With his claimed creds as being all about the CT, it wouldn’t surprise me if he has an active account here. Maybe just for reading but possibly here.

I wonder how he is taking his reputation slide.

I think like any good politician he has no conscience and continues to press his narrative. Tell a lie long enough it becomes truth to the masses.

What kills me are people I respect out there on YT like Farzad Mesbahi are giving him some cred by doing some interviews with him.

Cybertruck news, and for that matter, general EV news is a haven for grifters. So much bs reporting of "confirmed" stuff someone read on Twitter/YouTube or this site and couldn't be bothered to perform minimal due diligence to the point of providing any semblance of more in depth information beyond simply restating what they read as fact.

One could almost not blame the grifters because Tesla themselves grifts off this community and the community eats it up. MDR gotta pay for the 20+ $100k trucks and cars he claims to have owned. Got no personal problem with the guy, but tired of wading through shit in the ev world on top of the rest of the massive shit everyone has to wade through in general.

Put on your shit kickers and kick some shit!

Jokes aside, I find this thread refreshing in its embrace of asking hard questions of any ole info being spread around as fact. Everyone seems to be arriving at the same point of withdrawal where we no longer buy every little bit of info being shared as being remotely authoritative, compared to 2 years ago prior to everyone being burned multiple times. MDR just late to the game and we no longer give anyone claiming to be insider, especially new "insiders" a long leash.

He's got such a punchable face and he's really milking that ticket to investor day. I do think he's probably right the stuff he says he heard from staff, less so on his imaginating on price, etc. But he should shut up now. He's not an insider in any capacity.
what is bizarre to me is, as much as this guy is leaning into being the cyber truck expert, it wouldn’t take but an hour or two of his time to come into this or the other forum, and simply better inform and plagiarize the more detailed or responsive points that would take his talking head moments from sounding uninformed to somewhat accurate and responsive.

that to me, seems either exceedingly lazy, or instead, indicative of someone who is prioritizing a splashy take over a factually rigorous take.

Journalist Matthew Donegan-Ryan had a chance to speak with Tesla executives at the recent 2023 Investor Day and learned info about dimensions, wheels & tires, configurations, variants, storage, bed size, performance, prices, weight and more! Check out the video and specs (some based on his own predictions) below:

Admin update: added info presented in the video:

Tesla Cybertruck dimensions.webp

Exterior dimensions (estimated) Dimensions (+/- 2 inch leeway):
  • Wheelbase: 145”
  • Length: 231”
  • Width w/o mirrors: 84”
  • Height: variable (air suspension)

Bed dimensions (estimated):
  • Length: 73”
  • Width: 49”
  • Rear opening: 57”
*All dimensions shrunk about 5% from concept Cybertruck

2 variants available at launch:
  • Base model with 2 motors
  • Performance model with tri-motor (prediction)

Exterior / mechanical notes:
  • There’s a frunk (opens like Rivian, not like F-150 Lightning)
  • Rear wheel steering is standard for all variants / models.
  • Air suspension is standard on all trims / models
    • Tested to handle Baja style racing
  • Lightbar (at top of windshield) will make production and will have amber lights like the Tesla Semi
  • No storage compartment sails
  • Doors are not self-presenting - door buttons are on B and C pillars
  • Bumpers and sideskirts are plastic construction (Tesla will likely offer off-road steel bumper accessory)

Interior notes:
  • 5 seats in all models
  • Steering wheel will be flat top bottom and rounded side (as seen on Beta prototype at Investor Day)
  • 18.5” display will be Tesla’s largest ever
  • No gauge cluster, center display, head-up display
  • Rear console will have screen for rear passengers

Multiple wheels / tires packages
  • 18" wheels options
  • all-season and all-terrain tire options
  • 285/75/R18 tire size
  • Goodyear brand tires

Pricing prediction:
  • Top of the line Cybertruck: $90k - $100k

Other notes:
  • There is a secret Cybertruck accessories team working on own internal accessories (working on winch, off road lights, bumpers, bike racks, camping / overlanding accessories.

Based on this older Cybertruck spec sheet it does not appear to be a 5% shrink. Its about the same length, wheel base a little shorter, and actually a little wider now! Of course the accuracy of this spec sheet is to be questioned. I'm just saying I don't see the "smaller by 5%" here.

Fact is, what people can see with their own eyes is the lack of a sixth seat. That then begs the question: “what happened to the sixth seat?”

This guy says, “according to CyberTruck team I spoke with, sixth seat had to go because the truck shrank by about 5% from unveil prototype” - which sounds a plausible explanation of the lack of 6th seat far, and is in fact directionally supported by Elon’s prior waffling around ‘needing to shrink the truck by 5%,’ and the stated unveil on-screen specs, etc.

But then he says, “yeah based on my iPhone measurements it’s now 84” wide,” which makes no sense because that is the width of the unveil prototype in the first place (according to Elon)

For me, it primarily calls into question just this guy’s measurements and understanding of the relevant facts, while still leaving visible the lack of 6th seat and plausible the purported employee remarks RE shrinkage

Personally, this squarely into opinion land, in addition to the lack of 6th seats I also view that prototype to simply be smaller inside - to wit, compare your (very unofficial) diagram of the unveil prototype to the following photo:

ouch. When Sandy Munro was at the event, as well as many other folks I listen to, no one seemed to offer up any cool info. Sandy got what he could discern from what he saw while walking around. This gentleman however, is a never ending font of insight. I can’t imagine how he manages to do it. Then again I still want my deal breaking 6th seat. So, maybe it’s just me.
Never ending? I'm not sure what to make of it. I think he's laid out everything he's got/ is going to have.

It kills me that M Hyphen Whatever had a photo taken with Franz and Tom. Why couldn't he just cite them as the direct source as opposed to "Tesla Team" which is vague. Franz is even in his 360 walkaround video casually chatting it up with others so it's not like a reliable source wasn't there unable to give time or answer questions.

Yes, there are some potential nuggets of info but it's mostly just kicking dust.

He cited Tom when the quotes were direct from him. Stuff regarding Mexico was direct from Tom.

I don’t get the impression Tom or Franz gave MDR any kind of exclusive info on Cybertruck launch so he didn’t cite either of them. Just Tesla ‘executives’.

Tesla execs are pretty good about letting people take selfies/ group shots with them so seeing him in a photo like that where there were only **50** retail investors isn’t a huge deal. Particularly not when a lot of the media that was there left early to go party.

His post is ideal for debate and speculation. A bit of truth mixed with a bunch of made-up stuff. Figuring out which is which is impossible.
