That depends. Will the Mars colony be using metric or imperial or some other measuring system? I'm curious what SpaceX is using internally for their measurements. I'm guessing that they will be setting the standard on Mars for the foreseeable future.

And as for the CT, the mass may very well be the same but the weight most certainly won't be.

All space programs use Metric, after we lost a Mars probe. Most measurements were in metric at the time, because it works on a non-human scale better.

So what is Tesla using? Is everything in metric for Tesla vehicles and other hardware? With CT being built in TX it would suck if everything was in imperial and then the whole truck had to be redesigned to metric for shipping to Mars.

US Customary Units (slightly different than Imperial) work great at Human scales, like cooking a meal or building a cabin. But for parts and science, well, Metric is just better.

Metric is vastly better for anything which involves weights less than a pound or sizes less than a foot.

Dealing with US wrench sizes is just stupid. Is 7/16 bigger than 11/32? Why should I need to memorize stuff or do math in my head to know this stuff?

Technically, you're always doing math in your head. A sixteenth is twice as large as a thirty-second, and honestly, it's bad design to be changing increments like that anyhow.

But F is actually more specific than C - twice as much, actually - also it's human-scale. Once you hit 0 seawater is freezing, and few people go there, and a 100 is similarly dangerous,
